Driving School/Event
Driving School/Event
How do I go about this? A couple of my friends with 300zxtt's always go to driving tracks (ya know, with the twisties and straightaways). I have a few questions
1. Do I need to go to driving school first in order to join them in these events?
2. They told me this event is held at a "performance driving school" (thunder hill raceway) and not a "racing school." So my insurance should cover it. Does this sound right?
Thanks

The largest organization that lets you run tracks that I am aware of is NASA. http://www.nasaproracing.com/
I have run Watkins Glen, Mid Ohio, Beaver Run with them this year. Monday, I will be running Lime Rock at a NASA event.
You do not need to attend a school for NASA events because they are categorized (technically) as schools anyway. If you are new to running road racing tracks, you will be assigned an instructor and he will talk you through your laps until he feels that you are OK to run by yourself.
As far as insurance is concerned, I think you would need to read the fine print in your specific policy to determine whether you are covered. As a general rule, you should be covered if the event is referred to as a driver's school. This varies from policy to policy.
Here is a pic of me and my instructor running flat-out through the esses at Watkins Glen in May. Woohoo!!!
