How far will suspension mods get you?
How far will suspension mods get you?
ok, i don't know if this has ever been posted before, and since the search is down, i thought i'd just post it.
my question is, on an otherwise stock car, how much could you improve your quarter mile times by just working on suspension, tranny, etc, but not touching the engine at all.
i always wondered this. most people are really big into just engine modifications, but i always thought that there is a lot to be gained in a great suspension.
any thoughts?

From what I've heard, for every tenth you knock off in the 60 ft, you lose 1.5-2 tenths in the quarter.
So if you go from a 2.0 to a 1.7 as stated above, you're cutting around a half second off your quarter mile time.
As far as my experience, I've got my 60 ft. down to a 1.88 from a 2.05 and went from a 13.14 to a 12.87, didn't do any hp mods, just dropped some weight and worked on the launch. So for .17 I lost in the 60 ft, I lost .27 in the quater.

Yup, 60 foot times are everything. On my last trip to the track, I ran a 12.65 with a 1.9 60 foot. Next pass, I ran a 12.39 with a 1.74 60 foot time. Both runs over 108 mph. Traction is the key! I also believe that tires are a must. Suspension mods are no good without sticky tires. I use ET streets at the track.
