Relocating Battery, Fuel Cell (IHRA legal) & solid body mounts
Hey guys, I have a few questions about the 1991 Camaro that my dad and I are turning into a drag car. First off, the car will have a very healthy 327, TH350 and a narrowed 9" and a 10pt cage. We are going to be going with a fuel cell, but the car is a hatchback and it does not have a trunk. Where have you guys mounted the fuel cells and battery for IHRA competition? Here is a quote from the rule book for where we are going to be running most of the time.
"10.00-11.49 1/4 mile
Fuel System: Gasoline, alcohol and propane accepted. All fuel tank filler necks located inside trunk must have filler neck vented outside of the body. All batteries, fuel lines, fuel pumps or filler necks located inside trunk must be isolated from the driver's compartment. Gas lines must be located outside drivers compartment. Fuel tanks not to be higher than top of rear tires. Fuel Cell Recommended."
For the batteries it lists under general regulations - all classes
"All Wet Cell batteries must not be relocated into the driver or passenger compartments and must be securely mounted."
Also, who makes solid body mounts for a 1991 RS sport coupe? Where I can get them at? As I noted earlier, this is going to be an all out race car so streetablility is not an issue.
Thanks guys

Why such a small engine. If you're going to build a SBC, go as big as you can. 406 will make more power than a 327.
NHRA specs are almost identical to IHRA.
The battery is easy. Buy a Moroso sealed battery box and put the battery inside it. Even a sealed battery such as an Optima needs to be in a sealed box.
The fuel cell is you hard part. I run a 4 gallon fuel cell in the rear. There are pics on my site of the rear firewall I fabricated. I've changed it slightly since the pics were taken but the basic design is still the same. The firewall must seal the fuel cell compartment completely from the driver compartment. Mine is sealed all the way around the bottom and sides. When the hatch closes, it seals against the bottom of the hatch. I've never had a problem going through tech.
There are no such thing as solid body mounts for a third gen. Unlike first and second gens that bolted the front subframes to the main body and used rubber bushings, a third gen is spot welded together to make the entire body a one piece assembly.
