225 Drag Radials
I can pick up a pair of 225/50/15 bfg drag radials with 3 runs on them for really cheap, so i was thinking of getting some 15 in rims and put them on for only at the strip so i dont wear them out quick driving around. my buddy says they wont hook because theyre too narrow. opinions please

It's not the width problem but the height. 225/50/15 tires are just under 24" tall. That's an import FWD tire. Any rear wheel drive drag tire shouldn't go below 26". Maybe if you had some 2.xx highway gears so you wouldn't overpower the tires then they might work. If you have any kind of performance gearing in the diff, you'll easily create too much torque and just overpower the tires.

245/45/16 is 24.7" tall. Personally, yes they are also too short especially combined with any performance gearing. A low profile sidewall is good for cornering since it eliminates tire roll but for drag racing, you need a lot more sidewall. Cars with 17"+ rims and tires with hardly any sidewalls are designed for road racing not drag racing.
Minimum rim for a 275 is 7". 8" would be better.

I use that exact tire for drag racing only. It gives me the correct
overall gear ratio for the track, going through the traps at
5500 rpm. But as Stephen has stated they are easily over
powered and my best 60 ft is 1.90 so they are a trade-off. I think
for a lower powered car < 350 hp they are good if you can get
them cheap. The other thing about them is they look really bad
because of the small size.
