Help get me to low 13s.

Heres the combo:

355 9.4 Compr.
Dart S/R Heads (1.94/1.5-Same as world s/r heads just back when Dart put there name on em)-untouched
203/212@.050 .425/.439 Comp 50-state legal cam
Dart Sportsmand Dual Plane intake
Holley 650 Double Pumper
1.5 Roller Rockers
MSD Pro Billet with 6A Box

In a 3800Lb cough 81 cough Camaro with a Trmec TKO 5-speed and 3.42s and 26" Nitto Drag Radials it has gone a best of 14.3@96.5mph with a spinning 2.1 60ft time....with a better burnout and more practice on launching this car easily has a 14.0-14.1 in it as it sits now (I was running my fastest time with a 2.0 60ft time and was on pace for a 14.0 but it was in competition and I didn't want to break out-still ran a 14.4@87mph coasting)..

I'm at college now so my season is over but next year I want a low 13 second pass. What do I need to do to achieve this? Heres what I have planned_ take off the heads this winter and mildy port them(nothing too fancy-still retain the small valves) and then install a stout but good street mannered solid cam(I'm looking at the XS268 from Comp-its 230/236@.050 with like 4.7-8 lift). I think this miniature cam is killing my times. Also gonna remove front swayabr and pick up some SSm Lift Bars or Cal Tracs if money is good. What times do you think I could run with this setup? Sorry for the long post

Thanks guys.

PS- Do you guys see any significant advanatage in replacing my cheap flex fan with a dual electric fan set-up out of an LT-1? Car runs nice and cool now but I heard the flex fan puts drag on the motor. How much would this drop my times if any?!

You're not going to do it with cheap fixes. Pull the heads but get a good port and polish done and have large valves installed.

More cam. After heads, the biggest thing that makes power in the engine is the camshaft. That's a low performance economy cam in there now.

A 750 DP carb

LOSE WEIGHT! 3800 pounds (I hope that's with driver) is close to 2 tons of dead weight! Find ways to shave off a couple of hundred pounds. 600 would be prefered but every pound counts.

Going to an electric fan will only gain you about 5hp

Combo in my sig, very inexpensive long block. Your race weight is heavy to say the least and shedding pounds is a basically free way to pick up power. I will say the best bang for the buck I did on my car was losing the power steering and installing an electric water pump. These 2 mods were the only thing my drivetrain recieved over last winter and was rewarded with a first time outting this season by loing .6 to get me into 12.9's and consistent 13.0's. Definately bigger valves and bigger cam, my current heads are cruddy 305 casts with 2.02/1.60 valves, no port work at all, 65cc chambers, and 170 runners. My Lunati cam is very street worty and wished I would've kept the 300/300 .515/.515 Lunati cam that I sent back for my current one, either cam has good street driving characteristics and the latter makes goobs of power for a small hydraulic flat tappet.

Hows that electric water pump on the street?

If you guys think bigger valves should def. be done I might as well spend an extra 200-300 bucks and just pick up some Pro Toplines or Trick Flows.

What do you guys see my car doing if I throw on some Trick Flow 23s and a 230/236@.050 solid cam? High 12s possible?

I wanna shed some weight but I haven't found too many ways to do so affordable without sacrificing either safety or comfortablity.

All these things for a dailay driven car are iffy. I only see street time when the weather is nice and I have some free time, drive it in all sorts of temps from high 50's to 100 and the pump thus far has never gave me any fits or faultered in any way. I do need a aluminum radiator thats better than these stock units, but I think on a whole all our 3rd gens could benefit from this and not just because of an electric water pump. I've heard stories aobout these things from both sides, and like anything else if somebody knows somebody who know somebody that may have had a problem and hear about it through the grape vine then that's the general consensis your gonna get. Personally I take opinions with a grain of salt and lots of times go against the grain to find out for myself-been hard headed like that my whole life though-and my experiences with it have been great thus far. Solid cams will always make more power than a flat tappet hydraulic so by going solid and the trick flows, I definately think high 12's are possibility, just be sure to buy a set of poly locks so valve adjustments will be cut to a bare minimum.
