Hey yall I am debating over getting one of them LT1 Roadmasters ...anyone ever see one run at the strip? I know its not really thirdgen related, just curious to how well they'd do compared to most thirdgens...

They run mid-15's at around 90mph if they're in tip-top shape. Me and my cousin took grandma's 93 RM out to the track one night when she was out of town. No joke. The car would even hang w/ the old man's 93 sts until about 80mph, when the caddie would start gradually pulling. People don't respect the Northstar very much. Yeah they run high 14's at best, stock, but get those engines out on the highway and they'll stomp some a$$. I've driven the 93 sts on the highway against 99up GT mustangs and they don't even have a chance. There's not one stokc l98-equipped car that could hang w/ a northstar on the deep end, not one.

i just sold my 97 STS it ran 14.90's at the track. my vette with all stock at the time was faster though. i took the vette upto 165 mph one night and still had about 700 rpm left. never topped the cad out but she'd run to to 120+ quick!
should of seen those r i c e kids when i blew by them stop light to stop light action
drop the hammer at 40 mph and she'd smoke the front tires thru 2nd .....lol :hail:
GM wanted to use the northstar motor in the C5 but decided against it cause it was a GM purist motor for a vette. would of been interesting though! then again we wouldn't have the LS series motors

The new Caddy XLR is the closest thing to a Northstar in a vette that we'll likely see. It makes 320 hp. I would take the LS1 over the Northstar. Throw a supercharger on the Northstar and I might change my mind!

Trust me, an early 90's Northstar in good condition, with low miles are a steal. They are reliable engines. I've seen them run 14's too. That stat doesn't begin to do them justice on the highway.
The only drawbacks are, they're hard to work on because of the way the engine sits and its design. Everything cost losts of $$ to repair. The computer controlled struts are about $350 apiece and they list for over $700!
Overall, they are good, nice riding, fast sedans that look cool too.

The RM would run low 15's to high 14's. It has the LT1 and most all Impala SS mods and parts will fit. It has alot more aftermarket than a POS fwd northstar. Not dissin the northstar just that its a fwd. I have a 94 Caprice 9C1 and it ran 15.1. The decision is yours but I would take the Buick anyday.
If you need some info check the message boards out at NAISSO.
They have section just for RM's.
