weight reduction of diff. parts
I was wondering if someone could tell me the lbs u loose by:
1. replacing hood with fiberglass hood ( I did this but never weighted the 2 hoods)
2. removing crash bars from both doors
3. replacing stock exhaust manifods with hedman headers.
4. replacing driveshaft with alum. driveshaft.

stock hood is like 70 pounds i think, fiberglass would be like 30pounds, saved 40 pounds
2. removing crash bars from both doors
no clue, but my guess would be maybe 10 pounds
3. replacing stock exhaust manifods with hedman headers.
stock manifolds weight 22 pounds, headers most likely 18, saved 6
4. replacing driveshaft with alum. driveshaft.
i think this is like a 6 pound savings.
total saved: 62 pounds.

thanks for the info i was hoping for a higher number than 62 but thats better than nothing. I'm trying to cut the weight of my car down. I weighed my car at flying J and it weighed 3180 w/ the steel hood and without me in it. I've done spent and spent and spent and still cant go any faster than 15.78

As for the headers, those are a legitimate performance part aside from the additional weight savings, and would be a welcome replacement to your (I'm guessing here) LG4 manifolds.
BTW, 3180 lbs is really really light as it is. My car weighs 3560 lbs without me.
Weight savings definately help make a car faster, but in the range your car is operating (15sec), it is a lot easier to add power rather than save weight to get marginal speed increases.

Although it can be cheaper to go faster with performance parts compared to the cost of lightweight parts, a lighter vehicle is easier on parts than a heavy vehicle.
Third gens are also very nose heavy so anything to reduce the weight from the front is an added bonus.

thanks for the help. I've ripped out the ac and any un-necessary wires for weight reduction. My next thing to do is mount the battery in the back somehow. I am on the search for a 350. I'm tired of not getting any faster at the track.
