Yup it really is 170HP. My 88 Bird used to have the 305TBI. I put DynoMax headers, Hypertech Chip, Hypertech power pulley's, Flowmaster Muffler and a Jacob's Ignition box on it and it ran a 16.1@87mph where I live that was about a 15.4 at sealevel.

15.5 @ 89.2 mph

only 'mod' is an open element, plus lots of computer tuning.

I ran a 16.3 with about 100lbs. of stereo equipment in the trunk and its a convertable, so add about 350 lbs. to it.

I had the flowmaster 40 series and open element at the time. I'd like to take it to the track again and see what she runs now that the stereo equip. is gone and I have the fiberglass hood.

When I had the stock LG4 in my '91 Firebird, it ran 16.20's, I don't remember the trap speed. Car is/was a 5-speed.

My old 92 Firebird ran a 14.53 with Hooker Comps, cutout, underdrive pulleys, ignition upgrades, and some other good stuff. ****, wish I could remember the mph now it was so long ago. My friend who races IHRA pro stock ran it after he finished tuning it up and getting it running good.

My buddies 92' Bird 305 TBI auto with just a computer chip, shorty headers(stock exhaust after that), and 3.42s runs 15.7-15.8s consistenently with a best of 15.6.

Anyone have any good reccomendations of how to get this car into the mid 14s?

My all stock 16x,xxx mile 89 Formula 2.73 broken posi auto ran a:

2.388 60ft
16.631 @ 82.9

I replaced the severed tranny mount, and did stock replacement wires, plugs, cap, rotor. Then it ran

2.321 60ft
16.339 @ 83.99

My all stock 18x,xxx mile 88 Formula 2.73 posi auto ran with my brother driving (about 50lbs heavier than me):

2.252 60ft
16.013 @ 84.07

My friend's 91 base firebird 5speed 2.73 ran a best of 16.4 but his runs have all ranged between that and spots in the high 17's......but I think he needs to work on his shifting.

i'm interested as to what other mods you have done.

i am hoping to go very very very low 15's with nothing more than exaust and computer work on my LO3. getting some new suspension peices made over the winter, that should help me out. the best 60' i have been able to pull of so far is a 2.09, and that was on BFG Radial T/A's i'm thinking with the addition of headers this last weekend, some more tuning and a little better traction, i can go 15.0x to 15.1

don't know that i will get a chance to run this combo at the track though. i have some ported 416's, an UltraDyne cam, and weiand intake, that i am dying to put on

the TBI vs anything and everything you can think of has been made many times, if you think you are going to draw us into an argument, sorry.

Is it worth it?? Always the ultimate question. If you ask my wife, no of course! I have done nothing to my LO3 that will not transfer to a bigger motor, however in the process I have produced a car that will consistantly go 12.5's and is always mistaken to be a 350. My ultimate goal is to produce a car that will run 10's without tubs and all the stickers!

YES, dump the stock exhaust. My buddy did what he did and the car actually got slower with headers and stock I pipe. Its rediculously restrictive, ditch that and pick up like 40 hp then get back to us
