Car behaving badly
Went to track last night. 1st points race. Car started doing some unusual things..... first test pass appeared to flood from needles. Plugs black and wet, car lost power in second gear after leaving hard. Changed plugs cleaned and reset needles, checked timing and fuel pressure. next two runs, everything okay, good passes...mph down a little. First called time run, massive detonation at top of second gear into third. Flames and popping out exhaust. Car made it back to pits......checked timing, went to 40 degrees plus. Car poping and cracling while idling. Reset timing, marks moved. No way dist. loosened. After few minutes, car sounded normal except for high rpm miss. Did not make second called time run. Timing light flickering instead of giving steady strobe. Same on other wires, check all connections in electrical system.
Dialed in slow and got bye in first round. Lost in second round when car slowed further.
Today in daylight checked everything, plug #1 and #6 showed dirtiest with others varied. Checked compression, normal on all cylinders.
Am using Accel 300+ ignition box, is it normal for these systems to fail in this manner? Seems as engine runs, problem appears and gets worse with run time. I am guessing it is either box or coil. Ohm on coil is .58 which is within tolerance of >1 ohm.
Does anyone have experience with these systems? Any ideas? I was under impression that when they fail, they are dead.

Pull your distributor and check to see if the roll pin holding the gear on isn't broken. It doesn't take much for it to sheer off and throw the timing out.
