Project 25.2 70 Chevelle SS Outlaw Build Up !! Enjoy !!

Project SS Chevelle, The Creation Of A Quick 8 Car From Start To Finish , Click Here and Enjoy !! Part Two Coming Soon !!

There’s something about the 70 SS Chevelle that exhibits Pure American Muscle. All of us are aware that drivers are stepping up to meet new specs for the cars they have, some are in the works as we speak. Montana Brothers Race Cars is going to be home to Lou and Shirley Denny’s new 25.2 numbers matching SS396 Chevelle Quick 8 Project for a short time. Still motivated by J & E Performance power, the car will be getting the full treatment to meet spec and bring another crowd pleaser to the much liked Heads Up Competitions, running in NSCA, and the Quick 8’s. The new car will bring a refreshing look to an already diverse class of brutally fast cars. With Lou's wife Shirley’s support and backing, they both brought us one of the most pleasing cars to watch in the previous year. This is a family that is glad to share this build up with gDR and its members, from start to finish of this all new car. We will be updating this project with full editorial by Nick Montana, Lou Denny, Joe White, and pictorials as this car goes through the evolution from stock Chevelle to an awesome machine.

That is a good question xpndbl3, many of the Quick 8 style cars are going to need the newest design in chassis department because the "sportsman chassis" is soon to be outdated. In the second phase of the build the car is now getting the full tube frame structure to meet the SFI 25.2 spec for going faster than 7.49's at 3,200lbs. Being that the Montana brothers have arranged for us to help cover this build they have made sure that they are willing to give out all the information on what will it take to run these numbers. Many are confused on when the new chassis ruling will take effect but it will impact most racers that are looking to go past an 8.50 in the 1/4 mile. Some of the faster F Body's are at an advantage as they are light enough to get into the weight category and still run the numbers. Much controversy has been out there on just as to where the struts on a Firebird or Camaro can be. This article will allow you to see what will pass most tech and keep the classes from being all lightweight Fox body Mustangs and Keep the F Body's more involved.

I'm sorry if the post seemed out of place, but we all want to race and knowing before hand what you need to be competitive is a plus. IMO

This is a drag racing forum and it relates to chassis prep.

I am extremely interested in this article! I would love to see a build up of a 25.2 chassis and see all that has to do with making a car go that fast. I'm sick of seeing mustangs have all the fun, I think it's time for the F-body to make a hard charge to the front.

Thank you for the interest MCas7, There are very few racers that are willing to divulge the information on the "Front End", Firewall section of buildups on F Body's because of the secrets involved. There are quite a few competitive F Body's out there and they fall into the category of don't look, don't tell. Hidden tube frames in the factory frame rails, strut towers that have been too heavily modified and firewalls that retain less than 20% of their original Mass. As with any uniboby cars the faster they go the more rigid it needs to be when adding a Musi 632 between the fenders with 600+ hp in nitrous or turbo power. F Body's have very little that can be done and not protested in tech, when running the "Stock Front Suspension" classes. But builders like Nick Montana and Neverlift have some of the fastest and quickest F body's on the Planet right now. We trust their information and the quality of the work. Just look at the records that have been set by these builders:

Craig Pio, 1995 Camaro, 392 single turbo BBC, 7.09 on 10.5 tires.
Leo Barnaby, 1982 Camaro, 638 Musi, 7.24 @ 191 on nitrous and 10.5's
John Schroeder, 2002 Camaro, 638 BBC, 3,400lbs 7.17.
Joe White, J & E Performance, 1998 Camaro, 377 single turbo, 10.5's 7.60 @ 187

These are the pioneers in the "Take out the Mustang Gang"

The huge aerodynamic factor over the mustangs by the two F Body's will show this year when the norm for these cars will be well into the low 7's on an average.
