I have the suspension almost done, what about engine/tranny
So far i have done to my car what is in the sig. I Plan on welding in a 10 point rool cage and the SFC In the summer when im in chassis fab (im currently enrolled at wyotech) anyway im starting to think about what engine/tranny combo to run. My rear should be good over 1000hp, so i know i wont have any problems there. I plan on using a BBC prob 502, either a FI single turbo or Carbed roots blown. So my engine combo is somewhat singled down, what do you guys think about trannys, I want at ;east 650hp to the wheels, but im sure Ill never want to stop going faster. So I want to know what some of you faster guys are running. My goal is high 9's low 10's on stock style suspension and 10.5 inch slicks.

I'd vote for 'Glide in a high-HP, light-weight (relatively - we're not talking a '69 Impala here), drag-only car.

Guess it would boil down to what actual hp you come up with, and more importantly how heavy your car is also.
Glides can be build with many different gear combo's so if you on the heavy side they can install a 1.80 first and they're now offering a 1.9? gear set as well, but your talking MAJOR bucks for those tiems. The generic rule for a glide is 3000lbs and under. They will use glides in heavier cars that have alot of hp to take away some of the hit off the line as not to over power the tires, knowing the engine will pull itself harder once it's up and running.
For mild 5-600hp engines with typical 3300lb weight the 3 speed will be your best bet so you get the necessary gear reduction to get the thing up and running and will also work nicely on the street as well. With heavy cars, it's manidatory to get that thing off the line as quickly as possible for any attempt at a good ET since you hve a ton of weight to drag along with you on your ride down the track.
TH400 just because internally they are designed beefier than TH350's. If your not going to use a transbrake you can build a TH350 to be reliable behind 600hp, but you must have a good builder and must use good parts.
