thanks, wanting to try and make the 310 work for a while and get some gremlins worked out before i step up to a high hp motor. Will probably flog the cr@p out of this engine and see how slow it'll go

i tell you what, i beat the ever living crap outta my motor and it still keeps on ticking just fine! oil has never had any metal in it and i wrap this thing up to 7200rpms occasionally. the 305 is a great base to build a motor you want to learn on. that's why i did mine. mine has forged rods in it for insurance, but other than that, it's pretty much built with stock replacement stuff...other then the cam/roller rockers/timing chain/pushrods...stock crank, stock replacement l69 pistons (.030 over) and stock 416's. let me know how yours runs. i hope to be in the 13.3's by the end of summer without much mods from where i sit now.

for yours or mine? mine will remain n/a for a while. i think that yours should run low 13's/high 12's n/a. i think that the th400 will hold you back though.

what trans should ii go with then? I was running a t-5, but it REALLY didn't like launching with slicks, it finally broke bad, and afterwards i heard that is why they never put the t-5 behind the 350, was because they were only rated for like 300 ft. lbs...is that right?

i think that a th350 would work much better. they take alot less power to spin and can be build to hold plenty of power without costing huge money. i got a built 700r4 from a guy local to me for cheap. so, i am running his 700r4 and 4.10's out back on a 28" tire.

That's how i ended up with the 400, traded some stuff for it after my t-5 came apart. Had some parts put into the 400 to lighten up rotating weight, i thnk he dropped about 8 lbs off of it. Just curious, cause it seems your car is alot along the lines of mine, what are you running for a rear suspension setup.

It should have no trouble getting into high 12's. We are running low 8's in 1/8th mile with the following:
POS 305 stock bore (POS because there is a huge ridge at top of cylinders)
Original pistons.
Standard rings (top ring does not seal due to ridge.
801 heads off 267 that carry 1.94/1.50 valves, quickie porting and matching job.
Blue Racer 230 dur./.465 lift cam, hyd. w/1.6 roller rockers (.496 net lift)
1-5/8 hedman long tubes w/15'collectors.
air gap dual plane w/750 VS Holley.
Electric water pump.
5000 stall Edge converter (5400 stall behind 350)
th-400 w/rev manual valve body
9" Moser rear w/430 gears
29.5 X 10.5 X 15 MT slicks
The engine is a substitute for our stronger 350 (currently being rebuilt). Even with everything optimized for stronger 350, the 305 ran an 8.01 ET in 1/8th mile w/1.72 60'. If we did a bore job and used a shorter tire and TH-350 trans, it would have easily ran in 7's.
Contrary to popular opinion, there is nothing wrong w/305. This started life in car and was rescued when 350 dropped oil pressure due to weak thrust bearing.

not as often as i'd like. i'd really like to go every week, but i work alot at night and so it makes it difficult. i am also having some issues with my carb. the last time i went to the track, i fouled two sets of plugs and didn't get any good times in. oh well.

I know what your sayin, the only reason i built the 305 was because people (5.0 drivers) said that the only reason that they were getting beat was because all of the camaro's were almost 50 cubes bigger, so i decided to beat them with a small motor, and see what there excuxse was then
Anyway, my goal is to get the car into the low 12's n/a, then be able to bottle feed it into the low 11's maybe even break into the 10's

i built mine to beat 350 owners. honestly, wished i'd built a 350. i gotta good solid bottom end though now, so i think that with some ported heads, we'll have something interesting.

Finally made it to the track, off of the trailer went 13.6, on the motor, tuned on it for a good part of the day finally went 13.1 on the motor, went easy with the nos at 100 hp, and got to 12.3, have a set of heads setting around that i am going to play with to see if i can get it into the mid 12's on the motor, although i'll prbably have to step up the cam as well. I'll keep it updated.

Thanks! Worked pretty well to suprise the s**t out of a few of my friends running 5.0's. They have seen the car in build-up over the past year and said there was no way that i could run with them let alone beat them. They've changed their tune quite a bit after walking all 5 of them, 4 of them without the bottle, the other one took some work...I couldn't get him with the 75 shot so that is when i went to the 100, not to mention i killed him on the tree....I think he forgot to set his alarm clock....he had about a 1.0 rt, even so if we would have left together i would have beat his best time by a tenth

Great times. What are your 60' and incremental times? A dual plane would possibly help a lot. Would improve power low. We drop with single plane. You could even try 1.6 rockers if you have enough clearence.

I tried using a dual plane, but my plugs were way to uneven with the nos. I'll have to go and pull my log book to check all of my stats for sure, but i think 60' was 1.7x probably not going to push it much harder for a while i don't know how long the 10 bolt will hold up, even with a solid pinion sleeve and a rear cover with cap screws.
hopefully through the summer so i can finish the 9" laying in the garage.
