holy ****. I thought the cops in south florida are bad. But i guess this is everywhere. Unbelievable you cant do anything anymore without the govt. regulating it. Always looking for a way to make a buck. This is not the reason i fought for my country.

Holy crap. But really, I don't see how they are going to be able to keep that all inforced, especially in Iowa. With all the dirt tracks around here and thousands of racers, it just seems silly that they'd ever pull over enough racers to make much of a difference, short of sitting at the entrance to a track and stopping racers.
My dad is involved in the grain hauling business and the penelties for overweight trucks are pretty tough. But still, they can't be everywhere to enforce it, and many truckers get away free (damn 1 million dollar weigh stations are never open anyways)
If the boys in the baby blue cars wanna find something wrong, they will, now they just have a whole new group of guys to go after.
I'll be taking my chances

wow, I don't race pro like you guys do, but that's just ridiculous. I would have flat out refused and gone to jail, just to make sure that my car was locked up in police impound.

Yeah, I think it has a lot to do with the truckers complaining about "hot shots", guys who go out and buy duallys and the biggest gooseneck trailers they can find and haul frieght and get around a lot of the DOT stuff, and now they are cracking down on it.
There's a tractor message board I get on once in awhile as I own a vintage farm tractor and some of those guys are into hopping up the old tractors and going to tractor pulls, they have been getting cracked down on too. for the same reason- they win money, so then it's considered commercial hauling. Iowa and Wisconsin are some of the states enforcing it the most.
I guess what it boils down to is this- once you win money at it, they view it as income, whch then makes it in the eyes of the DOT a business or commercial enterprise, so it is then subject to the same regulations over the road truckers face.
Since I am such a lousy racer I won't ever win anything and won't have to worry about any of this.

Win money! What's that? I'd say that only about 1% of racers in any motorsport actually make enough to break even.
You know, think these law officials would go and find some "real criminals" for Gawds sake! I can understand the tightened security on enclosed trailers, and trucks etc. , thanks to the world we now live in, but come on, this is just plain old knitpicking, IMO. If anything, all they should do is ask if you would open the trailer and thats it. How can they put a weekend racer in the came profile as these "BIG" rigs, eighteen wheelers etc. Correct me if I am wrong, but you do not need a special drivers license, (in Pa. its a class 3) to drive these vehicles, unless you go over a certain weight, so why push the issue on these.

Maybe the truckers should quit trying to drive their 25,000 plus pound vehicles like sportscars. Not all of them mind you, but some really drive way too fast.
As far as the winnings:
I drive my car to the track, I pay taxes on the roads I drive on, the car is insured, and my state registration is paid, my state inspection, along with my fuel, and entrance fees. Now they try to tell me Im cheating Uncle Sam on my taxes too. GIMME A BREAK![B]

this is what the american public wants
The libertarians still arent getting any votes and people think the government is and should be an all encompassing entity.
Its not going to get better so long as people dont know what our founding fathers intended and actually wrote.

There are a whole bunch of rigs lined up at Bandimere for the Mile High Nationals this week. I'm sure the big boys have all their ducks in a row, but there are a lot of borderline Sportsman racers out there, too. Those are the guys who need to watch their 6's, because things like CDL are just the kind of expense & hassle that can put them over the edge.
I see a whole bunch of rigs every race I go to that fit the very description in the linked account. As far as I know, Colorado hasn't gotten this burr under their saddle, but I know several of these guys travel out of state. I have a friend who is in the truck enforcement division of the CHP, I'll ask him what he's heard of this.
