Quest for 13's part 2
Just got a few more mods on my car
See them here:
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2040373/2
Think I'm in the high 13's yet? I haven't got any 1/4 time in like 1/2 a year so I wouldn't know. The nearest dragstrip is 5 hours away.
If I'm not, let me know what mods next.

5 hours away, ouch! If my closest strip was that far away, I'd find another hobby.
From your "mods" I can't see anything that will give you much more than a factory ET or slightly better. Bolt on stuff only helps so far. The chip is about the only thing that has made any real improvement. Free flowing exhaust and good heads are what's needed for real performance gains.
HP is made from how much air can flow through the heads. I've played with Dyno 2000 on my engine. Keeping the same heads but changing camshafts and induction systems doesn't move the HP around very much.

Well down the road, I'll need to get new valve seals. While they're out of the car, I may have them ported or just buy a new set of heads. But for now, what would be a good 'bolt on' mod to get some better 1/4 times or 1/8 times?

I don't like NOS. I would rather go N/A. I will prob go with a stock internal 350 with some ported heads, intake with ported tpi setup and a cam if I can ever figure out how to put one in without screwing some stuff up. I don't wanna go the HSM route either.
Headers or stall alone should net you high 13s to low 14s if the car is mechanically sound and well driven. Add both and mid to high 13s are reasonable at low elevation with good weather running on a track that bites. Blow the launch in a Long Tube Runner L98 and it's all over.

i'm there already with practically the same mods as you know! LOL with all the coming soon stuff put on, you should be there as well.
definately look into lower control arms and brackets, some adjustable shocks to help the launch situation. and good sticky street tires or drag radials. should be easy high 13's

Well.. within the next year
(im in high school) I plan on having the stall, headers, new cat in. That should be good for 13's?
Dunno if it matters, but Im not using the stock runners, SLP

Headers, cat-back, and gutting the area under the air filters should net high 13's at sea level. Done it on two friends cars. Do a search on the net, there was some guy who did that and ported the intake behind the TB, along with some other "free mods" and was running mid 13's. Read it in a mag (maybe GMHTP). That car was rolling without spending a ton of $$.

What exactly is involved it gutting the airbox? Ive been meaning to do it.
BTW, Im around 2800 elevation where I live, but the track that I go to sometimes is MUCH closer to sea level.

Under the two air filters is some plastic crap that cuts down on airflow. Nothing a little hacksaw won't cut fix. I'm sure it if you search around you will find pics of someone that's done it.

Oh ok, I gotcha. They look like plastic covers for wires under them, but what does it matter when those wires are dangling 2 inchs below it already? Those things block alot of air.. geez.

Hopefully I'll be ordering the headers sometime soon. I just gutted the airbox, put in K&N's, and I must say it breath a little better. I just need those dad jim headers on there.

Dont get FLowtech headers, the kinda suck to be honest. Hell ,even Heddmas are better than those IMO. If you have them, then bolt them up but if not, save up for somethingl ike Hookers or something.....In any case, get full exhaust, stall, some 3.xx gears, sticky street tires and for sure see 13's easily...dont blow the launch though!

I though about getting the flowtechs, but Im not. Im going with Hooker 2055s, or some SLPs. Hopefully the full exhaust and all previous mods will get me 13s. If not the stall def will.
