Have one big track weekend where you have all the street thirdgens from all over meet and race for who is the fastest in their class. maybe have a all street legal deal with like a 20 mile cruise and maybe even seperate into classes like 13 second class 12 second class and so on and so on

This is good stuff, hope someone catches the idea, since these cars are gonna be the hobbycars/hotrods of the future.
I'd hope for withthe new owner that there could be more happening on the front page, so to make this a REAL site with lots of activety, articles about members cars and whatnot, and not only forum activety. I think thirdgens have way more potential in general than what is exploited at the moment.

That would be sweet. I really enjoyed going to the Thunder Shootout at No Problem Raceway. We need something like that for us thirdgeners.

people need insentive to race though. it costs alot of money to get to races...who's willing to put up a purse for each class? who's planning on getting sponsors? track rental? which track? why that track? etc...there is alot more involved than just saying "hey, lets have a global race" which is essentially what a TGO Shootout would be. i think it's a great idea, but carrying out such a task would take 6-8months planning...so, you've got a great headstart on something for 2007.

So would this be street cars only, or modified allowed... I seem to remember that the Norwegian Skinne bros. won the world championship in pro stock in Florida with an all red firebird or camaro way back. THey were so much faster than the competition they got banned, but eventually got the win back as they hadn't cheated.
Well they proved their point and they are building competition engines here in Norway still today.Guess it has to be more mundane cars than that though.

For those within a few hrs of Cordova there is a F Body Meet there, i think that it is mainly a show though, however, after the show there will be a regular drag racing show that evening. Event is May 13th. Show is from 9-2 then racing is after.

Heartland Park Topeka is as close to the geographic center of the lower 48 as you can get.

I was kinda thinking somewhere around dallas since all the other meets seem to be around illinois and east america , this way you could have the southwest people and the west states and still not be much farther from the north or the eastcoast then it would be for the westerners. I also was thinking that maybe it could be a street car shootout. maybe we take a 25 mile cruis for anyone in the class and then we make different time classes off of time trials. I know south of dallas is a great track and ofcourse there is HRP or san antonio just to name some here in texas.
----------
then houston raceway park would fit that bill
----------
honestly I dont care where it is as long as it is centralized and organized. It was really dissapointing to see there was no track event for the 06 nationals and that is why I thought we should put something like this together. I think It would be fun to have an event for the fastest street driven thirdgen in america

Well i have been to both Huston and Dallas for NHRA events. I vote for Dallas since i think the track is alittle better and it is further north.

Great idea, but please don't suggest a track just b/c it's near you. Make suggestions based on personel, price, and quality of the track. I know from experience that a track rental will run you ~1200. This is for 8 hours of racing in one lane time trials, maybe sponsors can pony up some cash for that and a purse. Entry fees to race and spectate will help cover that cost. Talk to vendors and get them to rent out spots to sell crap.
I can promise you that I will not be driving or dragging my car 1000+ miles just for a "FUN" run. F that. I think the interest is here, we just need to drum up the money and participants. At the earliest, this would take place in the 2007 season. We are WAAAAY behind in getting a track day for 06. We need to find a central location with a good track that is willing to deal with us.

I'm all for the idea, and I'd choose Topeka even over Houston's HRP based on Topeka's central location. Plus it's a town town big enough to be found on the map and handle a large TGO group with out the hassle of mega-towns like Dallas and Houston.

I agree, if it is over 1000 miles i probly will not go. That dosent mean it isent good for the site tho. The spot should be wherever there is going to be the max turnout.
Just FYI,
When the big thirdgen gathering happened in Maryland a couple years ago
I drove my car 6 hrs to maryland, along with 3 friends with LS1s to get together with people who enjoy the same things I do..
Only to find that out of a hundred or so cars - like three of them actually raced! wtf!
Really disapointed me.
Its was so disapointing that John Hunkens of GM high tech was there, and I don't think any of it made the magazine - I have been wanting to have a gathering - my local track in PA rents for $600 I think..
But there is just no loyalty or care, which is why I have always like building thirdgens though, because most expect them to be slow.

I agree, but this calls for even more coordination with local tracks, more money, more people, and more complications as far as rain dates and low turn outs etc. I think doing a one race deal would be easier to get things started. Find the problems, and then set up a "series" for the '08 season.
