reverse lights

I figured some of the street/strip cars might could help me. I want to wire up my reverse lights on my car. My 87 Camaro came originally with the H.O. 305 5 speed. Where are the wires for the reverse lights? I now run a Glide, all the factory wiring is still there except for sensors and junk like that. I figured i could put a micro switch on the trans linkage, but need to know where to find the wires.

Are you using an aftermarket shifter. They usuraly have switeches for the reverse lights and neautral safty switch. The wires should be somewhere in the center console where the manual shifter was.

There should have been a second switch that came with the shifter. As for the wireing i dont realy know much about it in manual cars, but mine was wireloomed in with the neautral safty switch. 2 wires for it and other 2 reverse lights.

My factory wiring is gone from my car so I can't help with color codes. I use the reverse switch in my shifter to activate the transbrake. My valve body needs the transbrake button to be pressed when in reverse to engage the reverse circuit. It's awkward to push a button on a small steering wheel while backing up and turning so I originally installed a toggle switch on the shifter. This means I had to put the car in reverse and flip the toggle switch to back up. I figured out I could use the reverse switch in the shifter to do the same thing automatically.

Manual transmissions with have the reverse circuit on a switch on the transmission. Automatic transmissions will have the switch on the shifter. Are the original wires under the car? Maybe the wires go through the floor near the shifter.

GM color codes are normally universal so the reverse circuit wire colors in any GM car should be the same.

All the wiring is still under the car. I know it wasnt on the shifter because i had a Hurst quick throw in it before when it was a daily driver and there wasnt anything attached to it. My car goes in reverse with the transbrake button too cause it has a pro tree valve body.
