Typically, most people start with 165R15 VW tires and they work fine however they're very short. A taller tire will give more rollout and less chance of cutting a red light. I use MT 28" tall front runners mounted on 3-1/2" rims.

I run the Mickey Thompson 25x4.5x15 front runners on 15x4 weld magnum drags. I will get 26" next time to fill up the fenders a little better. They seem to react well.

will the 28" tall ones rub at all? I have the 165r15 tires and want to raise the front end a bit and I believe they're 25" tall or so, and would like to get some more ground clearance for my trailer.

If I had steering stops they probably wouldn't rub but if I make an extremely sharp turn, they will rub. I try not to make very sharp turns.
