I want to build a good autocosross setup for my 91 Camaro RS 305. Right now its bone stock but I wanted to see what you guess would suggest for A good engine and tranny combo as well as suspension upgrades. I really would like to put a six speed in it.

 

Well, if you wanted something different, you could go with the 4.3L V6 found in s10 blazers. Get a TBI one, and search the net for the Hot Rod Magazine article on their buildup of one. They got 301hp out of it, before hitting it with a supercharger (then they got up to 500!). But, i would think 300 hp would be enough for an autocross type course, and the lighter weight of the 6 versus an 8 would make the car handle much better. Since the 4.3 is based on the 350, almost any SBC transmission should bolt up. So, you should be able to hook up a 6 speed with only relative difficulties. There are kits available to put a 4.3 where a 350 or 305 was. I thought about doing this for my road race camaro rs, but i got a 4 bolt 350 with the car, and since im on a budget, im gonna use it...for now.
