82 Is back up with some new gear..

Last week finally pulled 3rd member from 9" to see what happened this time..
If anyone remembers it broke the center pin a few months ago, replaced stock diff and mini spool to full spool.. Only to have it break on the last day at track. After removal found that 5 theeth had sheared off ring and one of the bearing caps broken in half.. My guess is it sheared teeth first, then when a fragment went through it busted cap.. but that may be backward being car only moved 5-10 ft, but thats all it would take.

Friend of mine had a nodular iron case, so I replaced my case equiped with 2.91 carrier bearings to larger 3.06 carrier bearings and a new motive gear ring and pinion.. Really wanted to use this as a good reason to get the aluminum center section and shave 30 lbs off that heavy mother. Just could not spring the $450 yet though.. Found nod case to have some extra ribbing forcing me to go crazy with the grinder on my moser tq ar adapter - no loss there, as that thing alone weighs about 20 lbs or way more.. way overkill 1 1/8 steel.. plan to make a new one of those out of ribbed 1/4" or aluminum to shave lots of lbs.. But thats later down the road, its moveable now..
Last, the car still has the huge 13" 1976 ford ltd wagon drums that weigh 28 lbs each!!!! I am working on removing those along with big backing plates and installing so rear disc.. I have found a few low $ ways to do it, one is these weld on brackets from some circle track catalog that with some mods accept 4wd S10 front rotors and calipers. But i have also found a complete kit with light weight rotors, alum calipers and mounts/bolts for $259..
Either way plan to shave about 30-50 lbs off car, alot of which is rotating weight.

As for the 87, its still in exact running condition with same dead battery.. really itching to throw a 12 bolt in and 4.30's and get that thing back in the 10.80 range but this time with the 6-speed and lots of abuse.. Just need to win lotto first.

Interesting about the N case not clearing the TA bracket. I have a 9" Currie and I did not have any fitment issues. I am using a factory Ford N case that has had the caps changed out to a 4130 version.

The only issues that I had was that my TA mount hit the body and I had to box it in that area.

If I end up doing something I'll let you know, maybe you could do the same..
That thing is just rediculous heavy and way to strong for what either of us could ever break I think.. Also after years of fighting the bracket on, I used to have to start all 3 bolts together and wind thing in to case because one of
the holes or mounts are off.. Finally I cross threaded one and went with slightly smaller bolts that would pass all the way through, and I found these neat little copper bushings at lowe's that fit one side and take up the possible movement on the braket side..
Much easier to tighten nuts from behind car and with impact now!
