Anti roll and a chromoly 12 point are coming in the spring. The car flexes way too much.

i don't think you need to worry about faster...maybe take some off, the nose will stay on the ground, lol!

 

quick question for you guys... my car dyno'd peak torque around 3100 rpms i think it is since the dyno run only could measue about 3000 on up. peak torque looks to be at 3100 but carries flat till 3500 or so.

I know it still has lots of torque from 2500-2800 but i was wondering if i'd see a good gain in 60 foot if i moved from a 2800 stall to a 3000 or 3200 preferably. Car sorta feels like there could be more in it when i launch it. some ppl were surprised when i said i cut 1.74 60 foots as the car looked "lazy" off the line. Also, May consider longtube headers and porting/port matchin the heads to my HSR over winter if i dont do a cam. should get me a few more lbft and some ponies up top.

 

From what I understand, longtubes boost low end torque a bit.

Watch the classifieds for a good deal on aftermarket heads, it's sooooo easy to go fast with them compared to stockers it's not even funny. You'd probably be able to go well into the 11's with a medium small cam and a good set of heads.

 

yeah if i do the cam i think i'd want more stall anyway...something like a 3200-3400. basically sending my edge off for a restall

when you get that crazy are you making solo passes? I'd hate to have you in the lane next to me knowing how that thing runs out wouldn't take much while on the bumper to hit me.

 

funny thing is, that car leaves straight as an arrow.

 

when it's on the bumper anything can happen, in fact he's stated that all 4 wheels have been off the track before.

 

I always get a litlle nervous when there is a car in the other lane. My car always goes straight but there's always that one time the bumper catches a little more on one side than the other and it could send you to the other lane. I know I'm always on lookout when the car in the other lanes up like that. It's pretty common in the local outlaw drag radial races. Earlier in the year at an 1/8 mile event.

honestly its not intentional, the first time that i really stood it up , and possibly got the rear wheels off the ground ( i dont know, mw66nova and his brother had much better views than i did, so i have to belive them) i didnt expect it, the new engine i built had all of three passes on it n/a then since i had everybody covered except one car i decided to put the bottle in for first round, and i didnt correctly turn down the controller for the nitrous, i thought i had turned it down, but it was at 75 % like 150 or so, i was running that setting with the old engine and it worked ok. so when i let go of the transbrake it went straight up, and i lifted, all the way, knowing it wasnt going to be good for the car. i made shure i was still able to control the car before i got back in the throttle (not to mention it had knocked the wind out of me and i wanted the hell out, NOW) after that round that i won i had to race the fast car, and while on the trans brake it felt funny and was making alot of noise so i turned the nitrous off even though i had turned it way down, i treed him but lost obviously, next time at the track that is where the vids and pics came from was a super gas / super street race day, so there were only a few test and tune guys there, the first run was n/a like i usually do to make shure everything is working ok, and to warm the fluids before really running hard, then that big wheely pass that i pedaled so it didnt go on the bumper, was a solo shot. after turning down the nitrous more it stayed at a reasonable hight, still higher than i want though, does that answer the question xpndbl?

 

haha, and i noticed he still won...that's what you get for lining up next to a 7.8 sec car, lol! but hey, if you had a 632 donovan with two foggers and a plate, you'd probably be that fast too, lol!

*sidenote* john is one of my favorite people to hang out with at the track. i wished i lived in ya'll neck of the woods, you'd never get me away from him. he's just an all around cool guy.

 

carfixer sure does answer it, just from all pics it seemed like a wild ride and I know at local tracks those guys usually run solo passes. What are you planning on doing to control it since wheelstands are definitely eating up ET over just a small wheelie and going. I know you were adament about not getting wheelie bars.

 

John is definetly a cool guy. He definetly has me a little out gunned. I can hang half decent though at the 1/8 mile races. He still beats me but it atleast looks like a race. LOL I'll still be too slow next season but it should be alot closer.

 

What are you running for a combo if I may ask? That picture is stunning. Also what kind of mph are you running?

i have made new limiters for the front, about 1/4 inch extension now, but i can adjust that 2 to 3 inches at the track if i need to, i also changed the bump stops so they wont let the car bottom as easily, it might be abrupt, but less so than pavement lol, if that doesnt work i will try a few things at the track, or just play, 80 to 100 ft wheelys are kinda fun as long as you can see where the track should be its ok, i focus on a tree off the end of the track to see if it is going straight, except if it goes too high i cant see it anymore

 

if that doesn't help, are you going to change to a different converter stator to change how the car leaves the tree? Or perhaps a glide trans swap I would imagine would take away enough gearing to have it leave easier? Wheelie bars as a last resort?

 

i dont think wheely bars will last, the car comes up fast, and i am concerned about that breaking the bars, or even worse unloading the rears and turning the car. I have a feeling i will be changeing transmissions since i am really abuseing a 350 going by times ive run to this point, im making about 900 hp, i do need to control it a little better. i may try setting the staging limiter higher to flash the converter less, or something, the converter is new, and spragless also, and i cant belive how well it works, flashes at 52 to 5300 and has like 300 rpm slip through the traps, dont know how but it works good. i may hit the track on the 18th pretty much the last chance for the year, the track should be cold as hell so i dont know how well it will hook, i may add some tire pressure so they spin just a little, i have a few things to try , i just didnt get a chance last time, since the fuel pump was lameing out, didnt want to fry the new engine ya know

 

ok got to the track, rolled up to the tree, hit the button..no trans brake, so i played with it on a foot brake launch check this out i dont know how it worked at all.

now this looks much much tamer, did it run faster? Looks a ton safer too.

actually no it was about .2 slower......even with alot more nitrous off the line

 

best 60 1.66 in my 125 shot pretty early chattering the tires through 1st. since i got the 175 shot i have done better then a 1.72 wheel hopping bad.

 

How is that dragstrip in Macon? is it twiggs county? I heard Jack Barfield bought it. There are a few ORSCA races down there this year, I'd like to make those races.

 

no, that was at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, ga. Macon National is supposedly one of the best hooking tracks in the southeast. i have never run that track with my car though. i know they have a TON of outlaw 10.5 races there, and now the ORSCA guy owns it (can't remember his name, sorry, lol!) and i hope he cleans it up. there used to be a ton of gambling and drug trafficing there. i'd really really like to run the 7.0 class, but i'd probably have to put a nitrous system on the car if i keep the 305, and i don't wanna run n2o if i can avoid it. too bad ORSCA doesn't have a bracket class. i'm gonna run a bunch of brackets at SDR this year, and if i do any good, i'm gonna build my 350 with the $$$ 1/8mile racing is where it's at here in the south, but i know you know that already. right now i'm running 7.9's at 84mph, that's not good enough. i suppose if i went with more gear i could do better, but not another second worth.

 

I can foot brake the 6.0 bracket....., might pull the limiters for that, I saw sdr was doing 1/4 mile brackets this year, could be fun

 

it's way cheaper than headsup and i'd like to get something back for my efforts. i'm actually contemplating a 28x9 slick just for consistancy's sake. my tax return i'm doing a full ignition system upgrade, just for consistancy's sake, lol!

 

yeah your car could use a spark lol, might help with that pop on accel, like last time we were at the track. wonder when we are going to see a schedule for 08?

fridays arent likely, we get out of work at 6 maybe, 2 hours to get to the track, unload etc..8:30 8:45 get to start running, even packing up at 10 , its still midnight to get back to the shop....and then an hour for me to get home...doesnt seem worth it.

Now that you're going to a new combo, won't you divulge your secrets of your old one? I remember you quietly mentioning vague details, at least that would help narrow it down.
