Fuel cell fire wall
got a 15 gallon rci fuel cell in my well and im contemplating how im going to seal it off to make it track legal. Heres some pics of the idea i was throwing around. (mocked up in cardboard).

I would put weatherstripping along the top to seal with the hatch when it is shut.

CAp off each end with 2 other pieces of steel so the cell is completely sealed off from the rest of the car.

The long straight piece would be square steel supports id place behind each end piece for reinforcement. Im also going to put 2 more pieces of steel supports right above the cell(in addition to the two im welding on the button to bolt the cell too) for safety issues should a rear end collision occur.
So, is this a good start and will be be track legal?
Thanks!

Re: Fuel cell fire wall
Years ago when I had my fuel cell in the rear, here's what I came up with. I made it go completely from side to side out of about 7 pieces all pop riveted together. It didn't have a great seal where the window struts came down but nobody questioned it. Isolating just the center section will work just as well.

Yea I was actually modelling mine off of that your setup lol. I like how you have it done but since I have a bigger cell I couldnt mount the firewall completely vertical like yours.

How tight a seal is it required to be? I’ve been wondering if you could get away with something laid out like the stock hatch cover or something similar, possibly just going to the stock trim panels so you could hinge it or something and still be able to get to things. Just the thought of “I have some steel or aluminum between me and that stuff” since most cars with a normal trunk get away with all sorts of holes in that area (I don’t think that my brother’s car has ever been questioned in tech and he doesn’t really have any firewall back there, just the stock back seat and package tray between the trunk and the passenger compartment, and he has his battery in the trunk…)

Going by the rule book, cars with batteries and fuel cells that have a real trunk, are supposed to fill the holes in the package tray.
