mighty 305's new best!
went out to Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA today. car went a new personal best with this combo. decent air today too. 40ish % humidity, mid 70's for temps and 30.50" barometer. i'm trying to get ready for the upcoming bracket season starting next weekend. made 4 passes, all of which i had a 1.67 60' time. varied .008 to the 60' in all four passes. did pretty good on reaction time too. -.004, .007, .039, .038
here's the best time slip:
r/t: -.004
60': 1.671
330': 5.074
660': 7.947
mph: 85.21
1000': 10.445
1320': 12.568
mph: 106.08
so i dropped one tenth and gained over 2 mph just with the fuel system upgrade. i knew it was worth something! and the previous best of 12.66@103.98 was in pretty stellar air too. today was nothing to sneeze at for good air quality, but nothing like the mindshaft stuff we get in November.

very nicely done, 3mph faster than what my old 305 did on motor, now just hit it with a 150 shot like I used to do to run 11.60s

Re: mighty 305's new best!
soon, but i gotta pull some gear out of it first. i'm thinking a 4.33 over the current 4.56's, but i'm not sure if it'll be enough. don't really wanna do a 4.10 cause i want to be able to get alot out of it on motor too. going through the traps right at 6500rpms with the .56's...all this is still on my drag radials too...i'm gonna hold on to 'em for a little while longer

peak power is like 6200, i shift at 5900ish...it's likely a little over geared

it was never tbi. the motor started out as an 85 lg4 way back in the day. if you look in my vB garage and sig it's got all my info, but i'll go ahead and say it again. the heads are modded 416's. have a small amount of bowl blending, the stock 1.84/1.5 valves with a backcut and we milled them to a 53cc combustion chamber. the car has a modded 650 double pumper on top of a holley street dominator intake p/n 300-36

Re: mighty 305's new best!
I wouldn't worry about changing the gear for a little nitrous.
use a moderate amount (100-150hp) right off the line and have the nitrous turn off on the top end say 6000rpm, using a "window switch" to control when the juice comes on and goes off. Then just hold 'er to the wood thru the traps.
This will limit the rpm and MPH thru the traps while on the juice. You get 95% of the et gain and all the fun, without excessive engine rpm.
When bracket racing, use the juice right out of the hole. Your opponent will see you stop accelerating at about the 1000' mark ( when the nitrous shuts off) and will naturally let off, to avoid breaking out, cause he thinks you are backing out of it to avoid a break out.
Try it. It's a lot lot easier to scrub off speed and et at the end than try to chase someone down.

eh, i'm not gonna spray when i'm bracket racing. the class i'm in is a 12.00 and slower class, that would put me too fast. but i like the window switch idea. i think i'll do that for my friday night test-n-tune play time!

I'm in the same boat. The fastest I can run the bird without a roll bar is 11.49 et here.

I went from 13.24 to 11.92 @ 117 on a 125 shot last season(355ci) with a 1.94 60ft and running VERY rich(9:8 a/f
) up top on the gas @5800ft altitude....so sorting out some issues should get me low 11's, i'd hope.

that gives me hope for even larger of a gain...think i gotta 10 second 305 on my hands with some spray? i'd have to put different gears in it though so i could spray all the way down the track...

Re: mighty 305's new best!
10 sec 305 is very possible if your tune is next to perfect and your using "good" gas(100-104), colder plugs etc.. so you can run a little more timing than with 91/92 octane. After you've nailed all that, your only limitation now will be the physical strength of your motor's internal components.

Re: mighty 305's new best!
oh, well I wouldn't push it too much then if you'd prefer to keep it together...either way you're running 12.5's on ***** right now all you need is a 100-125 shot to be in mildly modded BBC territory with a 305 and that will be VERY respectable in any true hot-rodder's book. I know TONS of BBCs,BBFs and mopars that can't break 13.0's and they're supposed to be running well according to the owners....makes me laugh all the time.

Re: mighty 305's new best!
i think this is what i'm gonna do. i'm gonna go with the Zex perimeter plate kit and put the 100pills in it. i'll likely go to a 4.10 gear since i probably won't be giving up on my 28" drag radials anytime soon. i'm building another motor right now, but it's gonna be while till it's ready to rock. once i get the new motor together, i'll lean on the 305 for all she's worth to see what it'll do. i just hope it holds together for that long, lol!

with only 100hp you'd best try it with the 56's first.

Congrats on the new best for the iron headed 305. As far as nitrous my old 327ci motor I had ran 12.90s on motor and on a 175 tune it went 11.30s at 118mph. This was around 14 years ago that little motor made a lot of money back in the days.

Yeah Boy, That car is impressive. I saw it with my own eyes this weekend. Way to go man. Yes you should get the zex plate like I have, it's a real nice piece. I might hit the track this friday if the weather holds out. Then I'll hit the juice off the line, I didn't have time sat. Hope to see you there.

craig, you're the reason i wanna go with that plate. i really like the way it looked on your car and i've read some awesome reviews about it. i'm not gonna go friday cause i'm going saturday for the bracket race. you should come out and run the brackets with us man! see if ya can't win some money back after putting all of it in the car, lol! (that's my thought process anyhow)

Wouldn't mater anyway car is still in pieces from the suspension upgrades, and missing the drivetrain at the moment. BTW nice RT's as well

Re: mighty 305's new best!
haha, the south does have it's benefits from time to time, lol! but it doesn't leave much off-season to afford to do major upgrades. hence why i've had the 305 for so long, lol!
i'm hoping my r/t's are that good this weekend and i'm able to see some $$$ at the race!
i'm gonna give the consistancy of the 60's some props. even though they're not super fast, they're really consistant. i put a set of rim-screws in and i really think that helped out alot. less than .005 variance lane to lane and only varried .008 over the whole day.

Re: mighty 305's new best!
the box. it was freaking out and resetting the limiters all the time. very annoying. not sure what i'm gonna do, but i'm leaning towards an msd digital 6, then expanding it later, but a digital 7 would do everything outta the box...
Re: mighty 305's new best!
ahh, you dont need all that fancy stuff just throw a dual point dist. in there lol.
any way last year on a 150 shot, went 11.0's n/a and 9.99 on the bottle, on a progressive controller though, but it could leave on all of that, and was leaving on 225 at atlanta motor speedway but it also hooks in a car wash lol
ill run you on the bottle, ill run n/a , might even let you stage on the rears lol

Re: mighty 305's new best!
that distributor seemed like a really nice piece. but i took all of that back. i might even suggest it. mallory makes all their ignition pieces. i would think it's just as good. i think my box was just a bad box. like i said in the other thread, they'd seen a few come back with similar weird issues.
rich, haha, bring it on big man, even though you run 10.8x's on motor, lol! i gotta win a few races before i can think about actually getting all this stuff. the zex kit is like $550! and i'm kinda agreeing with you on the "fancy" ignition parts, lol! i'm thinking "my hei works great...what's the problem with just keeping that and pulling timing out manually when i hit it with the kit?"

Grats man...thats movin!
spray sounds fun and dangerous with those pistons. Best not to punch a hole through the piston this early in the season...lol. Im rooting for ya man id like to see that 11 second 305 you promised us awhile back.
70 degrees in february...must be nice. Though they are callin for 60s monday/tuesday up here.

thats not a roller cam is it? you should keep it a roller if its not
Re: mighty 305's new best!
Nice gain and times! I am not so much impressed that its a 305 than I am
you are using those 416 castings! Both are very impressive!
As for the spray, years ago when my camaro was 355 running 12.0, 100 shot gave me 10.8s.
I would deffinetly run taller tire or less gear if you spray, especially being n2os biggest gains are usually in the Torque department.

Hey Matt, congrates again. Sounds like you got everything running well this year. Sorry I wasn't there yesterday to see it for myself, I kind of lost track of time. Go ahead and slap that NOS on their, a 100 shot should be good.

thanks guys! no, the camshaft is a 280h hydraulic flat tappet camshaft. i'm thinking of going back to a solid flat tappet camshaft over the winter. also, i'm going to a forged piston and get it ready for spray next season!
