Re: new best. 12.88

You did loose some gearing going to the taller tire which could have caused the 60ft. to fall off, also how did the car react coming off of the line, if the radials were allowing a little bit of tire spin letting the engine stay in the power band it could cause it as well, if the slicks were dead hooking and causing you to bog slightly could do it as well. As far as seeming to be all over the track...what psi were you running in the slicks? If you were a little under pressure they will try and walk under you some, as the speed was coming up the centrifugal force on the tire will cause them to hold better under speed. BTW what mph were you running?

psi was 14psi. traped a 104.7 mph. but 3rd run i let off to get it lined up run a 12.932@ 104.56. 1st run a 12.995@ 103.4 but had a rocker arm nut back off. i dont understand how in those two runs it didnt lose that much.

If your not falling off that much when down at least partially on a cylinder there is still alot left in tuning.

Re: new best. 12.88

congrats on the new times.. running a bigger tire will give you more of a highway gearing feel.. i would guess bogging off the line since its an auto and has the ability to hook better.. if it was a stick, your 60ft would most likely go the other way.. 1.8 to 1.7.. the bigger tire also let you stay in the powerband longer and thats what net you the new times down the track.. as for the loose feeling, thats what bias ply tires feel like.. takes a bit of getting used to.. when i first ran my hoosiers at 12psi, it felt like i was gonna meet the wall at 90mph.. you just have to learn to steer straighter and smoother to get the wiggle out..

Re: new best. 12.88

if its not too much of a hassle for you, give it a try.. see what happens.. the jump from 3.73 to 4.10 is rather large so you might end up not getting much gain at all..

this is what i mean:
leave it as is, stay at 1.8xx 60fts, be in the powerband longer=12.8
swap the gears in, go 1.6 on the 60ft, run out of steam on the topend=12.8

so you really have to just try it (if you want).. every car reacts differently.. you might drop alot of time, you might gain time.. only doing it will tell..

Re: new best. 12.88

bottom of the track as in starting line i assume.. (just to make it clear).. white smoke?? thats usually water.. oil usually comes out a bit blue-ish.. if its water, head gasket or intake gasket seal.. if its oil, most likely valve seals..

how much smoke we talkin??? puff, cloud, burnout contest?? if its a puff, could even be that its runnin rich..

Re: new best. 12.88

test n tune

like in this video?? you can see faint white smoke about mid track to the finish.. thats from a compression leak that i had.. it would push oil/smoke out the dipstick since i didnt have a pcv valve at the time.. though it may be hard to distinguish in your case, since your exhaust exits the back.. mine comes out infront of the rear tires.. check the motor and trans for any signs of oil leakage.. if none, then its through the exhaust and its back to the motor burning water or oil..
