Torque arm suspension and drag racing

Who says a torque arm suspension won't let a car hook?

Isn't that one of the fastest drag radial nitrous cars? I remember seeing a thread about that thing somewhere...

Re: Torque arm suspension and drag racing

It's Smookie's car. First radial tire car into the 7's. A big BBC with 2 stages of NOS.

You can see lots of goodies under the car. Ford 9" diff, not tubbed out. Torque arm suspension, front coil over's on factory style struts. Tubular k-member, rack and pinion steering. Header tubes go on the inside and outside of the frame rails. Looks like a Stef's oil pan.

Re: Torque arm suspension and drag racing

i want a big block some day but i cant get over how tall those motors are thats a big hood

i'll settle for a big inch smally or lsx with some boost to make up for the power/torque. That car is hot tho!

That car is wicked sick. We were @ that event when he did that. Its actually the reason I decided to buy a third gen that weekend @ the race.

Re: Torque arm suspension and drag racing

that's an absolutely beautiful plumbing job!
i wonder how the strut mounts looked after "touch down"

anybody know if there are "after" pics?
it would be a great study on the true impact resistance of our cars when they're under duress.
i'm not saying the third gen's are for "dukes of hazard" jumps, but how often do you get that kind of impact information?
i almost don't want to see the "after" pics! that's one beautiful setup.

Re: Torque arm suspension and drag racing

well I happen to have first hand experience with this subject, I stood it on the bumper, and when it came down, it did less then i figured it would, however i do think the front is slightly tweeked. I extended the upper strut mounts about 1/2 inch, I could slide a large screw driver under them lol, and flattened the headers some, bent the hell out of the collectors from the exhaust comming down, scrapped the front bumper some, and if i ever take the oil pan off it will not go back on im sure, all in all not bad
