pics of launch with 4.56's

Here are some of the track photos from 3/29 EFI race at Englishtown.

I am the blue 91 Formula on pages 1,5,and 12 (good launch pic on 5)

This is proof that a stock style suspension car with torque arm mounted to tranny can launch if set up properly

That's a nice launch. I have a 91 Formula that I am building up quickly. Hope it hooks like that!

Please elaborate on the "set up properly". What exactly have you done to the suspension?

Re: pics of launch with 4.56's

I tried to keep the suspension simple:

no front sway bar
Lakewood 70/30 drag struts

Random Technologies torque arm (still mounts to clamshell on side of trans)
Spohn tubular lower control arms
Spohn LCA relocation brackets
stock ws6 rear sway bar
Lakewood 50/50 drag shocks
Airlift airbags in rear springs, set at 15psi passenger, 10psi driver
Eiback drag launch springs front/back

Re: pics of launch with 4.56's

did you have to mess with adjustable panhard bars, or an adjustable torque arm, for positioning the rear axle?

Re: pics of launch with 4.56's

I use the non-adjustable lower control arms and panhard rod. Torque arm was set at -2 degrees when I originally put it in and I haven't touched it since.

And no, that is NOT the stock 10-bolt. Its a Strange 12-bolt with 33-spline axles.

Damn, I was hoping that was a 10 bolt. Well..I'll see what a 10 bolt can take, or at least what the axles can take.

my 10-bolt lasted until I got past 13.0's. Then I broke teeth on the ring gear.

Re: pics of launch with 4.56's

Ive been one of the luckier ones.

best 60ft 1.38
best et 10.07
stock 10 bolt, 3.73 gm gears, torsion diff, moser axles.
Lasted many years in the auto like that, wrecked car and cracked diff.
swapped it with another used torsion which is now in a 4th gen, same rear and a 6 speed now. Not spraying so far has gone 11.0 w/1.50 60ft.
Plan to spray it this year and see what happens.

Re: pics of launch with 4.56's

A 10 bolt can handle 500+ if it's built rite but for a true drag car I wouldn't risk it and run a 12 bolt or 9". Since I'm an all gm guy it would be the 12 bolt. Oh and that's an awesome launch. There we're alot of vettes. Tell me you beat a couple of them.

???

It can handle a 1000hp if you never floor it…

Drag racing on a stock 10 bolt is just a question of when you’re going to break it, not if. I guess they can withstand enough abuse on the street, but I have yet not to break a 10 bolt that has had any significant number of dragstrip passes or even just burnouts on it.

Sure, a slow car, a light car, one with an auto… will all let it last longer, but you will break it.

Re: pics of launch with 4.56's

I HAVE HOPE!!!! lol nice pics! love the wheels up

i still have the trans mounted torque arm as well.. but only have been a best of 1.65 60ft.. its hard to get a stick to hook though.. this is my best "picture" that i pulled from a video.. 1-2 shift, not the launch though.. i figure if it hooks off the line, i should get about 8-12inches of air..
