Need help getting in the 9's
Thinking about going to the track this weekend and had some questions about why my brothers 83Z cant get under the 10's in the 1/8th mile. Some details about his car:
305 Carb'd LG4
Transmission: 700R4 Automatic
Axle/Gears: 3:42 Zexel Torsen Posi from 00 WS6
Engine/Drivetrain:
Edelbrock TES Headers
CompCam XE262
CompCam 981 Springs
3" Flowtec Cutout
3" Flowmaster Catback
14x3 K&N Open Element Air Filter w/Xtreme Air Lid
Edelbrock RPM Intake Manifold
Rebuilt 700R4 w/Shift Kit & Vette Servo
1LE Aluminum Driveshaft
00 WS6 Rear End w/ 3:42 gears & disk brakes
Suspension:
Eibach Sportline Springs
KYB GR2 Struts/Shocks
BMR LCA Relocation Brackets
Lakewood Adjustable Panhard Bar
Energy Suspension Rear Sway Bar Bushings
275 BFG Tires all around
His car totally stock ran a 10.0 @ 68mph, and now his best time is 10.07 @ 72mph with all his mods. With the cam, I guess he lost some low end torque, but he should be in the high 9's at least right? The 60ft's are pretty bad though: 2.4-2.5's. What does he need to do? A converter?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

2500 ish stall and drag radials, not street tires. that will drop 60's well below 2.0 and well into the 9's you will go

But use at least a 3000stall. with that cam in a 305, it'll like it.

Thanks for all the help thus far.
z28freak84; you suggest at least a 3000 stall, what range would be considered street-able? The car is a daily driver.

Re: Need help getting in the 9's
i used to run a 4100stall lockup with a 700r4 back in the day with my 305 and was VERY streetable. just gotta get a quality converter. don't spend your money on junk b&m or low-end TCI and you'll be fine.
actually...jegs has a house brand converter than i know a couple of guys are running with good results. i think they have a 3500ish stall converter

Re: Need help getting in the 9's
I'm running a Jegs converter and i really like it, for the money its awesome. Flashes to about 3400 every time. you need to get the 60ft in check, my IROC with a 305 TPI has gone as quick as 9.60's with an open diff and 3.42's on street tires.

Re: Need help getting in the 9's
what they said. Its all streetable if u get a GOOD ONE and have the lock up feature. Which if ur running a 700r4, then USE a lock up converter.
A 3500 would be nice for it.

He is probably lagging out of the hole.
On my 86 LG4 Trans Am, I just changed the carb and intake and this is what I ended up running on my first day ever at a drag strip.

I can't even seem to get my 88 Formula to hit the 14s', it does a 15.2 @ 93mph.

Ditch the old carb and run a Holley 600, with an old style HEI dist. it'll wake up.

Re: Need help getting in the 9's
My completely stock 305 Tpi with flow master and 3.42 gear ran a 9.23 when I first got it on street tires. With his mods I don't see how your bro is in the 10's shoot my RS eclipse ran a 10.20 and my 05 saturn ION 4dr ran a 10.64 last summer. It must be the weather conditions or above sealevel thing. get that 60 down.

Re: Need help getting in the 9's
i dont think that cam is that big in that motor of yours... so i think 2800 would be optimal. 3000-3500 is alittle too much i feel especially for a driver
