Went to the track last night
This was my first time down the 1/4 mile and the first trip for the Camaro. I ran 5 times last night and my first pass was the best. I could not get it to hook up. Had a blast.
R/T- .891
60'- 1.986
330- 5.779
1/8- 8.923
mph- 79.58
1000- 11.586
1/4- 13.806
MPH- 102.25
I did manage a 104.43 MPH in a later pass.

Re: Went to the track last night
I'm new at this but I'm liking it. I have 275-40-17's B.F. Goodrich KDW's on it. I thought they were supposed to hook pretty good. I avoided the water box. I did do several burnouts to get the tires sticky but it didn't seem to help. I dropped the air pressure to 28 psi. I thought about getting some DR's and see it that would help. When I built the car I was hoping for 12's. Seems I've got a ways to go

Re: Went to the track last night
what stall do you have? I would think that you should be trapping at least 107-108mph with that combo....what does the car weigh?
You should also stick a 750 double pumper on it. that will probably pick it up 2-3 mph and 2 tenths.

Re: Went to the track last night
It's the tci street fighter, 3000 stall. I'm not sure of the weight of the car. It does have AC and it is loaded up pretty good. I've not done anything to the carb, I haven't even checked my linkage since putting in the carpet. I'm not sure if I'm going to WOT. IIRC when I cross the finish line I'm about 5000 rpms in D. Would a 750 DP be too big?
Re: Went to the track last night
You've definately got enough MPH to go high 12's, it's just not getting down the track. Your 60' wasn't bad for a regular street tire. I'm curious about the torque converter in your car too.

Re: Went to the track last night
Get some Hoosier QTP's and drop that 60 ft. You shouldnt have a problem switching over to a 750 dp. Also what is your timing set to? Do you have LCA relocation brackets?

Your stall seems okay. A 3500 would be better, but ur fine.

Re: Went to the track last night
That funny, My friend and I just recently put together a .060 over 350 with flattop pistons and vortec heads. It loved 38* with a rpm airgap and 292 hyd cam. We even tried my friends Holley race 950 hp on it and was fine. The motor was 10.5 to 1 on compression and we ran pump gas.
We even put it in a 89 RS camaro with headers. When we sold the car it only had a 600 Holley on it, which really choked it down.

Did you verify TDC? Unless you know exactly how your timing mark and timing tab match up, you shouldn't be talking in absolutes.
BTW, old-school SBC's typically like 34-36 degrees total. 38-40 is BBC territory.

Re: Went to the track last night
Yeap, We had to check piston to valve clearance and TDC. The marks line up. We put the cam straight up and we were just fine.
Now on my personal motor, Im running AFR 190's with stock L98 crank/rods/pistons. My car runs its best at 40*. We started out at 36* but the guy that helped with the motor suggested bumping it a few. My car picked up with each bump. We tried 38and picked up. We went to 40* and jumped .015 consistantly.
Im running a Probillet dist witout vaccum advance. All the timing is in by 3k. We set the springs up that way. The car starts and runs everytime.

Dyno would be better, but basically give it what it wants.

Re: Went to the track last night
I'm running pretty much the exact same set up in my 92 RS (which is a white Z03 also) except i kept the TBI unit on my car. My cam has a little less lift but thats about it. Right now i run about 13.6s - 13.7s all night long. The M/T Radials helped me out a bunch. I'd get them before you put a DP on there. Get traction before you give it more power. Keep us posted though. Very interested in you car

Re: Went to the track last night
I'm trying to decide which slick to get. The Hoosier QTP Slick 26 X 9.5 x 16 or the Mickey Thompson P255/50R16 Drag Radial. I'll only be running these when I go to the track. About 15 miles away. Opinions?

Re: Went to the track last night
I run the Hoosier QTP's and love them. Im getting 1.64 60ft.
I drive to the track and have no problems. I am also not running tubes. I have no air leak issues and saved some weight because they are very light.

Re: Went to the track last night
Well, I bought a set of wheels and tires to hopefully help at the track. I haven't been back yet but they hook pretty good on the street. Should help out some.

Re: Went to the track last night
That size should work well with your gearing. Next time out, check your rpm when crossing the finish line. You should be close to your cams top rpm range.

New best time
My best from yesterday:
R/T- .179
60'- 1.877
330- 5.432
1/8- 8.372
MPH- 83.82
1000- 10.923
1/4- 13.073
MPH- 105.23
The ET streets seemed to help. Car crossed the finish line ~4900 rpm's. I'm guessing the tires may be a little tall for the gear? So close to a 12...
I had the car weighed. 3310 lbs. with no driver.
