How can I get the best run?

I will be starting a v8 swap project in the semi-near future. Once my motor is finished and dropped in the car I would like to start drag racing. This is something I love to watch but have never officially/legally done before. I plan on a decent set of gears, maybe 4.10's or 4.56's and some good hooking slicks. Im hoping the motor will push approx 450-500hp. My questions involve how should I set up my suspension? What kind of carb should I use? Timing? Best hooking slicks or DR's? What size converter? Overall best/most recomended tranny? Any tips and/or advice is greatly appreciated and will be takin into serious consideration. I would love a fast car that is still highly streetable.
