okay here's the combo:
86 IROC completely stock suspension sway bar still connected (didn't have time to unhook it)
Pro Built 700R4 with a Precision Industries 3000 stall converter
3.73 rear gears with stock posi
28x10.5 15 M/T ET street
now for the motor...
out of a 97 Suburban with vortec heads, stock shortblock, comp 982 springs, Edelbrock Air RPM Holley mechanical secondary 750, and comp XR288 (236 int 242 exh @ .05 lift). bottom end is still all stock.
Now the best short time yesterday was a 1.84 the car runs 8.15-8.20 do you think it just needs more converter? i am stallilng to about 2K and then flashing it, doesnt seem like there is any tire spin but i would think that it should be doing more like a 1.7X short time any suggestions?

You can't stall it to 2k and then flash it. Unless you mean you are foot-braking to 2k to take up the slack in the drivetrain and then flashing? Flashing the convertor is leaving off idle. When you see the last yellow, floor it and come off the brake. Stalling it to 2k and coming off the gas isn't flashing the convertor.
Have you tried more initial timing? Take off that sway bar also.

okay, guess i phrased that wrong but yeah, i am foot braking to about 2K and then letting it flash the rest of the way, but timing didn't have any effect, doesn't seem like it is spinning so hopefully this weekend i can get it sorted out. May try flashing from idle again, i am going to be trying a few more things with the carb too, just read a plug and it looks a hair lean.
