holley problems

Anybody have any trouble using moroso rubber gaskets on their holleys? I've been using them for a few years now, and all of the sudden they don't seal up anymore. The carb leaks internally. I've tried them on 2 differant carbs. I had some carb problems last Sat. night at the track. I thought I was having a float problem, but it turned out to be a sealing problem of the metering block. I've used this style gasket for a few years on this carb, now all of the sudden it won't seal up unless I use either holley or aed gaskets. And even then you have to have the bowls on pretty tight. I've never had to crank down on the screws of this carb, like I do now. Wonder what changed all of the sudden. This new motor does vibrate more at idle than my old motor, lot bigger cam. Who does good work on holleys In the midwest?

Re: holley problems

Turns out, it wasn't a carb problem at all. Just some JUNK racing fuel I bought. It did have me chasing my tail on it though. I finally put the carb back the way it was on my 383, pumped all of the vp fuel out and went back to the turbo blue unleaded and it runs very good again. I took another 383 rotating assy down to have the machine work done, and talked to our local engine builder. I was only running 100 octane in the flat top 383, and that's what I broke the 406 in with, and made the first couple of passes with. Adding in some 110 as it needed it. By the time I had all 110 in it, just didn't want to run. Must of been a bad barrrel, cause it smells like paint thinner. The egt temp wasn't even reading 1000 degrees at the stripe. We'll see what it does in a couple more weeks.
