Capabilties of drums

What times are you guys running with rear drum brakes? When going to the moser 9" I had to go with the GM 9.5 drum does anyone know a link where they show how to install them. Or have any up close pictures that I can see how to put everything together? Thanks

Re: Capabilties of drums

I have Ford 11 x 2-1/4" drum brakes on my 9". Combined with Aerospace front disk brakes, I have no problem slowing down from 143 mph. Factory front brakes are scary at these speeds.

To my knowledge, the Moser bolt in diff uses the same mounting flange as a 10 bolt so it's just a matter of swapping the backing plates over.

I put gm brakes on both of my 9" rears. Had to buy grade 8 bolts and grind off one side of the head to be able to use big ford bearing moser ends. I also use aluminum 3rd gen drums on the rear and 3rd gen disc in the front, with manual brakes. I don't have any trouble stoping.

Re: Capabilties of drums

My dads old car had drums all the way around. compared to factory brakes, there is a LOT less rolling resistance , and they hold a car better at the line. his car used to run 10.10s/10.20s with manual drum brakes. and he never had a problem slowing the car down

our new dart is going to be the same. im sure that areospace or strange brakes are better at slowing a car down, but for the money drums can be cheaper, and faster.

Re: Capabilties of drums

friend of mine that owns the local speed shop runs 5.60's 1/8 mile at 124 and has to stop in a hurry due to short shut down.
factory 4 wheeled DRUM brakes on his 67 chevelle.
keep them adjusted and properly working, they will stop anything.
