Going to see what a new torque converter does

I've been running an ACC Boss Hog 2800-3200 in the TH400 since 2003. It actually stalls at 3500 behind the 396. I've been having more inconsistency in 60' times, and it's not from a lack of traction - the thing dead hooks with a 100 shot (which I don't normally run), so unless more power = more traction, that ain't it.

So, I just got a Hughes GM40HD 4000 stall converter. Shouldn't be too much stall, but hopefully it'll be more consistent than the econo bargain unit has been.

57 days until the first race. Hopefully some T&T a week or two before that. Then we'll know.

I asked the racers around here, everybody said they're good stuff. The lower stall less expensive ones have given people some trouble trying to race (happened to be in trucks), but otherwise the reviews were favorable.

This has needle bearings and a heavy duty sprag. Hopefully a step up from the BH.

First task will be to figure out the launch RPMs.

There's one class that requires a 12.75 or quicker that I'm thinking I'll run, 7 race season (one the same weekend as the Summit ET NHRA Div V Finals). I'll spray it for that. Mostly it'll be NA, though.

Hopefully I'll have the LS1/T56 car ready for a stick shift class. First race in that class is the end of April, 5 race dates (one the same weekend as the Summit ET NHRA Div V Finals).

Re: Going to see what a new torque converter does

very cool. i can't wait to get mine fired up and running around town. it'd be a good 1/8th mile car right now. 28" tall tire, 4.56's and a Vig3600 converter from Precision Industries...i'm hoping with all that and the 150lbs or so i dropped off the front of the car, it'll really start totin some tires!

Something tells me the first time you post pics, vids, and timeslips, some jaws are going to drop.
