Roll BAR finally done!

Just wanted to post some pics up. Let me know what you guys think. This was a big pain and I'm glad its done. Now to get some miles on the setup and see what it can do. O yea the main hoops plates are 6x6 but the pictures they look smaller because I didnt paint the whole plates just tapped in closer on them. I just know someone would have called me out on using a small plate because it looks like it but it isnt I also slighlty rotated the door bars inward so they nicely curve and tuck right around the inside door handles. I think it came out pretty cool and it tucks really nice. Let me know what you think

Re: Roll Cage finally done!

One more and the closest door bar looks slightly different in color just because of the camera flash and the gloss of the black.

Re: Roll Cage finally done!

Track or street use? I'm not sure that your angled door bars would pass tech inspection for track requirements.

Re: Roll Cage finally done!

No halo bar or A-pillar bars. That's a roll bar, not a cage.

Those door bars are fine for tech.

Re: Roll BAR finally done!

Roll Bar vs Roll Cage....Not semantics.

There is a classification difference. Same as a car vs a truck. Both are motor vehicles, but different things.

Also on the door bars I hope they pass and dont see why they wouldnt. It is mostly a street car but would be nice to pass. If you put them straight there is no way to have door handles on. I will take a pic when door panels are on they are only within like 1/4" or less of the handles so no way I could have went straighter without getting rid of my door handles.

Re: Roll BAR finally done!

How did that plastic hold up to all the welding spray?

Oh BTW, nice rollbar, anything passes tech w/ enough $$$

Looks good. Theres nothing sayin the bars cant be twisted in/out/up /down etc.
As long as they are in the right place.

My guess is.....The plastic was only there when the roll bar was painted, to prevent overspray primarily from getting on the outside bodywork.

Re: Roll BAR finally done!

Yup the plastic was only there for the spray painting and when I was welding I used some scrap sheet metal above it because I was to lazy to take the headliner down and didnt want holes in it

I made hella calls to NHRA, Local techs, CA Chassis Works, Tolle Fab, etc, before I welded a permant mistake in my car. They all said the more bends you put in a tube, the harder it will be to really pass tech.
When it really comes down to it, even if you get it cert'd, You're the one who's relying on the saftey of that cage.
Your rollbar looks good for what it is, a rollbar. It looks like a solid foudation to expand on, and thats what matters.

If the plastic was for paint, what did you use for prtection when you welded?

Re: Roll BAR finally done!

I didnt add any extra bends thats how the comp engineering side door bars come I just slightly rotated them in which would not change the strength of the roll bar setup at all. It is still the same bar and it is still welded in relatively the same spot. I dont see what would be weaker by doing it my way or not? As for what I used when welding I took some sheet metal I had laying around and put it between the headliner and the roll bar when welding worked good. Just have to be careful of the sharp edges on the sheet metal so it doesnt catch the head liner.

Re: Roll BAR finally done!

Nice work. I did my own as well. It's an S&W kit. My door bars actually bend outward slightly. Passes tech everytime. The t-tops made it easier to move around inside. It took me over a week after work. Very satisfying once it was complete.
