Mounting an external fuel pump
Where did you put your big external fuel pumps. I am switching to an A1000 aeromotive EFI pump and need a good place to mount it. It will also have a pre filter and after filter. I'm adding a sump to the factory tank so it must be lower than that. I would really like to run it along the rear most frame rail but my exhaust is completely in the way. I was thinking of mounting it in the bottom of the trunk well and running the line through. Than I would scew in a board to cover it up.
My carb holley pump was on the back of the rear seat wall but it made a ton of noise and I want this one to be quiet.
Any suggestions, pics or thoughts about the inner trunk well with a cover over it?
Thanks

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
Ours is just under the rear seat, in the open area close to the raer end.
Not a great place, but I didn't put it in.
It's also kinda noisy.
To lessen the vibes, use the rubber that came with the pump, or get an old
inner tube & cut pieces to size.
Put some between the mount & mount bolts.
Put some around the perimeter of the pump when you are tightening it in.
(edit )
ooooh---
ours is not sumped!! May make a difference

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
This is where I have mine. You can see the tank is sumped and the hose just isnt between the sump and pump in those pics. The hose wraps right over to that placement really nice. I havent had any issues with the setup. Just an idea.
I know your starting a new project from your other thread but are you putting the v6 turbo in the camaro if your looking for a place to mount the pump? I thought you were doign the t-type as your project or are you just taking the drivetrain. Sorry if misread your other posts. Either way good luck with it.

i mounted mine to the bottom of the passengerside rear frame rail just ahead of the bumper, clears the single exhaust fine, not sure what you are running.

prefilter right off the tank, and the afterfilter on the driverside

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
oh, and the pump is FAR from quiet, i even have it mounted with 1/4" of rubber between it and the body and its still loud
and the prefilter with the built in shutoff valve it worth every penny. Makes filter changes and draining the tank easy as pie

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
i am running a sumped stock tank with an a1000 at the moment, but plan on swapping a stock tank back in there with a pair of walbro intank pumps. or 3. i figure i can do that and pump enough fuel for my needs while being nearly silent and hidden from view. i could also add a 4" muffler in the stock location this way.
oh yea, my a1000 is mounted to a bracket i made that mounts to the front side of the trunk well.

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
I always mount mine in front of the rear end on the driver side near the stock fuel lines, i need to get a pic, it is just a holley blue but i know i can fit a larger unit there no problem.

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
zones, that is too far forward IMO, these pumps work off pushing fuel not sucking it like a mechanical pump. They should be mounted somewhere behind the rear end and lower than the level of the pickup/sump as well.

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
here's mine. i built a "panel" and welded it to the frame rail on the passenger side between the inner fender area and the hatch well. i attached the fuel pump to that, then ran the line down the passenger side of the car.

Do you have a picture of where yours is in the spare tire well? Does it make a lot of noise?
MW....that looks like it could be a good idea? is it very noisey?

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
I just beat the slight curve of the spare tire well back flat and drilled 2 holes and mounted up the pump. To keep vibration noise down you can spray it with that sound deadening spray they use for car audio stuff. I also added a sheet of dynamat to the inside of the car around where I mounted the pump. No pics of it though

Did all that stuf work? I don't mind hearing it buzz but last pump would over power the radio. It was aweful. I assume the return line will quiet it down as well.

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
mine is loud when the car isn't on...but 500+ horses breathing through dual 3" pipes and race mufflers makes the pump completely un-noticable

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
lol, i know, that's why i posted what i did. i have no idea how loud it'll be with a turbo six running. i'd imagine that it'd be loud, but not drown the radio loud.

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
well luckily the magnafuel pump is a lot quieter than most as well. I know my friends A1000 is louder by a noticeable amount. All those GN guys run dual walbro 255 in the tanks and they're fine from what I can tell. Wouldn't be a bad idea IMO

Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
My input line is below the fuel tank so that it would push, as it pushes it has a natural siphon effect i am sure. Never has given me any issues to date. If it was above the fuel tank i am sure it would be an issue.
Re: Mounting an external fuel pump
With my Gn motor my a1000 wasn't very noticeable it was a slight hum. I have mine mounted on the drivers side rail by the tank. I will try to get some pics of it tomorrow.

Its slighty load, I used dynamat above where it was mounted, that helped a lot.
