Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
Not sure how narrow to go yet. What would you recommend. Considered ordering the wheels and then measuring the distance once I achieve my ride height. I'd like to stay stock suspension so what's the narrowest I could go. Would 3" per side be too narrow. Also at 3" per side would that make my backspacing on 15x10s a 4 inch backspacing from a 6.5 (RTS only offered in 3,4,5 backspacing). Thanks guys

I'm not sure you can even narrow that much and not get into the LCA/panhard bar bracket. Personally I'd narrow 1.5" per side then run a 5" backspacing. Cut/notch your frame from that mini tub job and it'll tuck the tires in deep.

Re: Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
I went one inch narower and have 5.5 BS on 15x10's. It tucks nice. I wish I had a fab 9, my Moser isn't even braced.
Re: Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
Tons of options as well.
I figured if 15x10 fit with 6.5 backspacing. Narrowing 2 inches and replacing the missing length with backspacing would cancel each other out. Offset LCAs will be used as well.
How's that minitub coming along steve? Pretty basic? I'm gonna have to order the Wolfe kit soon to fit 325s

If you have the money, get the aluminum center section to save some weight
Again I'm not sure if you can narrow 2" from a thirdgen width and not have the brakes, etc in the panhard bracket.
Mini tubs....well not much is happening on the car
Too much family stuff going on over the holidays and then sold off my headers I built and ordered up all the piping to build some bigger stepped ones.

Re: Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
Every car that run slicks basically installs them. Be aware without a tube inside they will leak some air out on every set I've ever done. Didn't matter if it was moroso or jegs/summit brand screws, they all leaked air past them without tubes.
Re: Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
^ yep. I wouldn't run slicks w/o tubes anyway, but to each their own. - Slicks need screws or bead locks, IMO would be a serious risk to your life not running them on a tire that will have less than 20psi in it.

Hitac works fine. i use it on radials. They take a few passes to seat though.
Re: Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
Ok. Got my wheels in today and after talking with Midwest chassis and taking loads of measurements I ordered 15x10 RTSs with a ..... 4.5 backspacing. These lips are huge lol. Midwest has narrowed 2 3/4 inches on stock suspension thirdgens using offset LCAs and strange brakes. I can't post pics from my phone but I can email them to someone if they'll post them for me. they stick out about 1 3/4 inches so narrowing 2.5 inches per side should set them in 3/4 inch with the 325/50s with the hammer mod. Now the wait on the custom rear. :/
Re: Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
Lol. Wish I had an update to offer but Midwest has to custom make a trans crossmember for my th400. They have done a th350 in a thirdgen though. This is taking time. Shipping back and forth, test fitting. And I'm getting married in June so funds are a little on the tight side right now. It'll get done though lol. I'll be sure to post up here with any updates

Re: Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
Was thinking about this some today. If your using minitubs, offset lcas, and not afraid of modifying the panhard bracket what would it take to tuck a: 12" rim at 6"bs, 10" at 5"bs?
I have 10" with 5.5 bs and they need a solid inch to really look right. My original intention was to go with 1.5 narrow seeings how the aluma stars seem to be even number offsets as well as several other wheels.

I know this is only a 275 but damn that stance is PERFECT!!! Id assume troy is on a 12" as well so what would accomplish that?

Re: Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
I think my 6.5" bs tucks alright on a 10" rim with mini tubs and offset rod end LCA

of course now I could probably clear a 7.5" bs and 12" rim but it would stay centered in the same spot it is now. So wouldn't gain anything beyond the wider rim, but who needs a tire that big

Re: Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
I love your car and agree it looks great! How much could you lower it before it would touch the inside of the quarter? My car with a 1.5 narrower per side would be just 1/2" difference. If you went to a 12" it would sit an inch further out no???
I cant lower my car much more with this motor set-up but would like to go turbo and if I do I want it to sit even lower and want everything tucked. I hate the huge difference in track widths between the front and rear as well.

Re: Ordering my fab9 rear end!!!
that's with the wolfe spring adjuster all the way for the most drop in the suspension and a 10"x150 pound spring. I believe the torque arm is basically up into the floor a ways as well. It would look much more tucked if it was on the ground and not chest level on the trailer, but the tire is tucked a good amount.
