1/4 mile times...please comment

OK, took the car to e-town this weekend for EFI shootout. weather was crappy. (45-50 degrees, rained all morning and raced in 85+% humidity)

Car ran 12.83 @ 106.5 mph with a 1.75 60 ft. time

does the time and mph make sense?

What can I do to make the car lighter? It weighs 3788 with driver.

Give some more info. What is your setup?long runnered?if you have steep gears like 4.10's then your mph makes sense,as you are leaving the line real quick and maxing out at the top end. Also, the humidity probably ate some tenths.

Well,a 406 Miniram should be atleast a high 11 sec Car in an F-body.Vettes are deep in the 11's.To be honest,106 is a crappy mph for one,you can hit near 106 with the stock 350.With headers, high flow cats, and a ported manifold I can probably hit 106.I ran 12.7@107 with my stock 350,Largetube 90 Vette conv. Also, that seems like a pretty big cam for a TPI even a Miniram.A 228/234 with a solid roller is about perfect. What size are your injectors? What kind of PROM and heads do you have?To make your car lighter,go to www.theformulasource.org FAQ for some ideas.

I kind of thought that the mph was a bit off for a car like that. The injectors are 36 lb/hr. The heads are Sportsman II's with 2.08/1.625 valves. The car has a DFI system instead of a chip. I know the car is a little on the heavy side at 3800 lbs. Also, do these motors make more power as they get some miles on them? Possbly the weather had some effect on it. I will run the car again next weekend and post some results.

Thanks

Steve

I have not tuned the car using a chassis dyno. However, Julio over at Cartek in Garwood tuned the car on the open road when I first got the motor in about 2 months ago. Do you guys think that chassis dynoing is worth the money?

Yep, either that or at the dragstrip. I actually did most of my initial testing on the street, but it isn't safe enough in my area to get up to the 108 mph I saw on the dyno the other week. I picked up 4 horsepower across the whole rev-band by leaning out my PE 4%.

Regarding your initial questions/comments, your time is really low for that engine combination. But, the humidity does kill power, and your engine may need to break in some. Other than that, your tuning must be way off to only hit 106.5 mph in the 1/4-mile.

Something is definitely wrong with a trap speed of only 106mph when you have a 406 that has a solid cam. You should be hitting close to 120mph. I hit 112mph and am hoping to hit 115mph with my new round of mods on the stock 350 bottom end! Seems like you have the right selection of parts (as long as those sportsman's are ported all to hell). The 60ft looks good ... but the mph terrible. Seems to indicate a problem with your car pulling well at the mid-end of track. Again - looks to be a good selection of parts. I would definitely check the tuning.

Gunning for NA 11's with bigger cam, bigger stall, and bigger exhaust.
