Racing fuel

Although I haven't had to buy any VP fuel yet I'd like to show a comparable cost. All prices in Canadian currency and in liters.

20 liters of 112 octane C-12 VP fuel = about $50 canadian (I don't have exact numbers but it's somewhere around there)

Homebrew racing fuel using 92 octane and xylene (I can't find any Toulene yet). This mixture is supposed to raise 92 octane gas to 99.5

14 liters of 92 octane at current price = $9.65
6 liters of xylene solvent = $35.31 (inc tax)
Total cost for 20 liters of homebrew $44.96

A savings of about $5 and not as good a mixture as real racing fuel that is 12 full points higher.

Unless I could get xylene dirt cheap it would still be better to buy VP fuel.

Depending on your compression ratio, 112 may actually be too much octane to burn effeciently. On a 11:1 CR 350 that was in my 82 Z28 would actually slow down almost a tenth or so with 110 octane compared to 105. I bought several gallons of Sunoco 114 from a late model dirt track racer at the end of they're season and it slowed it down even more than the 110 did. The next trip to the track, we mixed 2 gallons of the Sunoco 114 and 2 gallons of 92 octane pump gas and the car went its best ET ever by .006, so be sure you have enough compression to fully benefit from the 112, and If not just blend a little pump gas until you find what runs fastest.

xylene?? I use that stuff at work, what's the ratio? I never heard of that. I'll have to check out what we pay for it.

Hey Stephen, I tried to email you but your email wasn't working. Your car looks great, good luck with the 460 this season. How did you fill in your headlights?? I like it!!

oops I missed the part about the headlights. Kemlite fiberglass, durabond (I think that's what it was) and bondo. It's not going to win any car shows for the quality of the work but it looks better than open headlight holes.

** non tech part now but needed to explain e-mail **

I watch my mail server logs. It's possible you either sent it from an IP range that I block or hat a return address that I block. Whith so much spam out there I have some basic block on my mail server and I only get about 1-2 spams a month.

I just looked through the last 4 days logs. A couple of attempts could have been you. @yahoo.com and @hotmail.com return addresses are automatically blocked. All asia/pacific ip's are blocked (unfortunatly AU and NZ get blocked also) and just recently I blocked everything from mindspring.

Sorry for any inconvinience but I'd rather miss a few ligitimate e-mails than get spam.

Just for a comparison.

VP 108 Costs me 4.50 at the track

CAM2 110 Costs me 3.69 at the Gas Station

VPC16 116 Costs $7.00 at the track.

I usually run Cam2 cause its cheaper and I havent had any problems with it. If I am trying something new or rasing the boost a little I will run C16 for Saftey. If its ok, I'll try the 110.
