The sled went 10's!
I was tickled to death this past weekend. I had made some changes to the suspension to help get the car to hook more consistently and I was rewarded with the car's first 10 second pass. I usually race at Captiol Raceway and the car would 11.0x me to death. They were closed for the past few weeks so I rode up to Mason Dixon which as about 700' higher in elevation. It went a 10.97@122.4 on the brakes at the finish line. Only bad thing is that I was dialed at 11.03
So I went home early but I was happy with how it ran. Can't wait to see what it will do at my home track which is only 50' elevation

Re: The sled went 10's!
10+ years ago I was 12-14 seconds. I know what it's like to break through all those barriers. My next one is to get below 9.0 which should happen as soon as I can get to the track.
You're at 10.9 now. Getting down to 9.9 isn't as easy as it sounds. Be happy to stay in the 10 second range. It's cheaper to race there.

Re: The sled went 10's!
Nice Run and congrats on the NPB! That is a good feeling.. First time I hit 10s my Father hugged me for first time-I was probably 20 years old - It was Awkward and never happened again.. lol.. 16 years later I get a thumbs up that we are both OK with.

Re: The sled went 10's!
Kinda surprised the car is as heavy as 3500-3600 lbs with 470 hp on engine. Seems way low hp for that trap speed. I figured my 383 was 500 hp and at 3450 i went 119 mph but gear and converter werent 100% optimized for the combo either. Worked better with a nitrous shot
. I think in great air i would have had 121 mph

Re: The sled went 10's!
Could be higher, dunno. Every dyno reads different. I'm sure ours read a bit low as every engine that comes off of it runs better than it should. Dynos are a tuning tool more so than an accurate measure of HP/TQ. It also maps out the powerband which makes it a lot easier to select the ideal converter, tires and gears to make best use of the power available. Short version? It's all about the right combination.

Re: The sled went 10's!
True that combo is working just seems that the numbers are abit off from most others i see dyno'd but you are right dynos are a tool. Not all the same. What matters is et and traps and you have it worked out

What gears, converter and tires (diameter)? What RPM are you crossing the stripe? Trying to figure out where I'll be with my combo and the soon to arrive 4800 ATI.

Re: The sled went 10's!
way to go...proves that smaller heads and carb are better for heavier cars...youre making steam in the first 1/8 mile...thats how you can run that fast. very well done.
i was supposed to race at capitol today...rain on the way keeps me sitting here playing on the computer. ill say hi if i see you down there someday!!

Last race of the season at Mason Dixon yesterday. In the good air the car went three consecutive 11.74x's at 127.4mph. Track was hooking good considering how cold it was. The 60's were all 1.44x. Car is deadly consistent.....just need a driver HA

Re: The sled went 10's!
I can't remember for sure, but I think I removed between 1 and 1 1/2 coils. They were a giant pain in the butt to install because they're so much longer than the stock spring. My tip is to go to harbor freight and buy a cheap spring compressor. Once you get the spring in place you'll have to cut the compressor into a few pieces to get it out because once the spring is in place the coils are too close to get the tool out.

Re: The sled went 10's!
I put some trick springs on the car yesterday and cut 1.5 coils off and it slammed my IROC on the floor, so much so that the headers were hitting the ground. I now have the OEM coils on and I'm going to buy another set and put them in uncut. Wonder why it did that if I have an aluminum headed small block, no sway bar, aluminum radiator e fan, Harwood lift off cowl and battery out back. Any insight?

Re: The sled went 10's!
I bought them used. Seller told me they were used for a season and then he swapped to coil overs. Could it be they don't have any umph left in th em after a season? I'm on KYB AGX struts in front set on soft also.

Re: The sled went 10's!
It's more likely that they're not the right part number. Did you have to un bolt the a-arms to get them in or could you put them in by just swinging the a-arm out of the way? If the latter, than they've been trimmed way more than 1.5 coils. These things are TALL out of the box, and even with 2 coils city off mine, I still have to un bolt the a-arm.

Re: The sled went 10's!
Interested to know some more detail on this as well, although it's an old thread. What accessories? Factory rims or drag rims? Transbrake? I have a similar combo that I'm just finishing up. 11:1 385, Holley 750, Performer RPM, Dart Iron Eagle 200s, 224/231 Comp cam. Also about 3500 pounds race weight. 3000 stall, probably not enough, and a 3.70 gear.
Without the carb being fully tuned, I'm running 12 oh's - 12 teens in bad summer air. Still has A/C, mech water pump, power steering, and alternator bolted up. Need to pull the A/C, throw on the electric water pump, and it should be mid 11s with ease, especially in good air. I could only hope that with a bit more cam and converter I could hit what you've got there. However, my bracket class cutoff is 12.00, and the car isn't caged. So in reality, it's sitting perfect lol.
