First Time at the strip in the 85

Got to take my TA out to the track for the first time for highschool drags. My first pass sucked had a .654 rt and quarter mile was 14.85 at 92mph. Ran similar times on my next two passes. Then in the first elimination round (bracket racing) i somehow pulled out a .003 rt which was the best rt of the night and i ran a 14.82 at 92 mph. Had tones of wheel spin on all my passes. Dont think i did to bad for my first time ever at a track.

Good tires will help traction but if tire slip is constant in all the runs, you can still dial in a pass while assuming you'll get slippage. If you do hook up during an elimination round, you'll probably break out.

As you can see, HP makes MPH. Traction makes ET. You ran a quicker ET but the same MPH. Reaction time means nothing to your run except during elimination since you'll both be dialed in to cross the finish line at the same time no matter how much different the 2 vehicles run. If you're slow off the line, the other car will cross the finish line first providing you're both going to run as close to your dial in as possible.

Even during time trials, you can sit on the starting line for 5+ seconds after the green light comes on. The ET timer doesn't start until you break the start beam. You'll see turbo cars doing that to build boost. Sitting on the starting line for any length of time during eliminations though will lose the race.

It's an addictive drug. Watching bracket racing from the grandstands is boring unless you're cheering for a friend, team member etc but getting behind the wheel of even a 14 second car in competition is exciting and you'll just want to do it again and again. The best thing about bracket racing is speed means nothing. It costs money to go faster but you can be just as competitive in a slower vehicle at a fraction of the cost. You can race as fast as your budget allows. Just don't get into the mindset that you have to be the fastest car at the track or that you got beat by a <insert brand name car here>. You're running your own race and it doesn't matter what you go up against.

Most of the time I have no idea what I'm up against. All I want to know is the dial in to know if I'm launching first or waiting to see if he red lights.

Those are some good times for a 305, what is your setup?

Thanks! I've got Mac headers and exhaust, splitfire plugs, Taylor plug wires, a stage 2 700r4 with a corvette converter, and 150 shot of nitrous that I didn't use. I'm definately going to get some different tires to run on for next time
