Hood latch vs Zeus

Getting my new hood soon, and was wondering if flush mounted hood latches are nhra legal, or even strong enough for 145 mph.

Re: Hood latch vs Zeus

You can attach a hood with Dzus fasteners if you want. I use stock hinges with 2 hood pins and 2 Dzus fasteners at the front.

Having to undo 10+ Dzus fasteners when you need to get under the hood in a hurry may cause some problems.

Re: Hood latch vs Zeus

I like the dzus fasters because they're flush, but like alky said, who wants to fumble with that **** when there's a fire underneath your hood. I don't like lift off hoods because they're a pita when in the pits by yourself. Factory hinges with 2 pins is what I'd do. To this day still just using the factory latch. Also been worried about it flying off so ill do the hood pin thing eventually. No NHRA rule that I know about. Haven't skimmed through the book in a while though.

Re: Hood latch vs Zeus

probably, but the hood bows a bit somewhere past 115mph and i'm looking to take advantage of all the aerodynamics of the front of the car as possible, so i'm pinning the front to keep it from bowing up.

Gotcha. I was hoping I'd be ok with just the 2 latches. We'll see.

I've been 175mph with the stock latch and no issues. I only go rid of it, because I was trying to lose more weight with the car.

i'm very confident the stock hood latch would do fine by itself, but i'm also on a diet mentality at the moment so it's coming off, lol!
