355 build opinions

Alright, so I'm thinking about building a 357 sbc from one of ATK's engines short block assemblies. It comes with 6.7 cc flat top hypereutectic pistons. I have a pair of summit racing 67 cc vortec heads (cast iron/ up to .525 lift) I also have a comp cams 282s kit with new comp cams pushrods too. I'm also going to buy a set of scorpion self aligning narrow body roller rockers (1.5 ratio). New summit racing billet double roller timing chain and 8 inch summit racing harmonic balancer. I also have a summit stage 3 aluminum intake (airgap) with a edelbrock 750 on it. I also have a msd streetfire distributor with msd wires. How does this sound in a 1985 trans am with a t5 transmission and 373 gears in the back? Any hp estimates?

Re: 355 build opinions

Should be a fun car. The power is in the heads and those are good for maybe 400 hp. So i'd say 375 or so out of that cam. Its a good size. Should run hard

Do you think it would be to much hp/torque for a stock t5? I was also thinking of buying a new clutch for when I do the swap.

Re: 355 build opinions

Depends how hard you drive it. If soft on gear changes and launch you might be ok

I wasn't planning on launching it at all I just want something with more horsepower than the 350 I have now. I was thinking about putting a bunch of bmr suspension stuff on as well (torque arm, k member, tubular control arms, and sub frame connectors) I just want it to be fun around town

Re: 355 build opinions

If you are going to spend the $ for a 350, why not go 383 as the cost increase is minimal compared to the increase in cubes (usually)?
