Track Tools

I am about to start taking my car to the drag strip. I would like to know from the people that don't keep all there tools and such in an enclosed trailer, what tools/specialty items would you bring to the track?

Re: Track Tools

Without a tow vehicle/trailer to store tools, there's only so much you can take with you. I always towed my car to the track so I always had a place for tools. In the early days when my car was just a gutted out street car, I had nothing more than a 6 drawer toolbox in the back of the pickup truck and an air tank to adjust tire pressures. Jack and jack stands in case I needed to get under the car.

Oh course, you need to leave everything in the pit while you make a pass down the track. If theft is that bad at the track, find another track.

It depends.

How do you plan to secure your property (tools, tires, cooler, xtra fuel, oil, etc.) when you're out of the pit area and racing?

I will take just an open car trailer. I have been to this track multiple times and they have never had any problems leaving anything open. So I was figuring just keeping all the stuff in the bed of the truck

If you're not concerned about theft, bring everything you can carry. In particular, bring an air tank and a good tire gauge. Also, a floor jack and a pair of jack stands, along with a basic set of hand tools including a timing light. If you plan to race at night, you'll need lights and some means of powering them (Honda makes very good small portable generators).

Spare parts would include ignition components, including a few sets of different-heat-range spark plugs, and if the car is carbureted, every carb piece and part you can find---jets/metering rods/gaskets/power valves/whatever. Extra lubricants and coolant are a good idea as well. Any other spare engine/driveline parts to bring will be determined by how deep into the car you plan to go if/when there is a failure at the track. For small blocks, a few sets of rocker arms/***** and some spare pushrods are a good idea.

Don't forget a cooler filled with ice and bottles of water, and a $100 'instant canopy' is a good idea as well.

Have fun! Good luck!

Thanks! That is exactly the kind of answers I was looking for! If anybody else has ideas, feel free to leave them.
