Take it to the track!!!
Take it to the track!!!
So many posts about "What does my car run"? "What do you think this setup will run in the 1/4"? It only costs 10-20 dollars to go to a track and race. We need some real track times posted...not guesses!! I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels the same. Come on people....go to the track!!
i totally agree w/ you on it...but you have to remember its not so much a deal about money, its the fact that not everybody lives a few minutes away from a track. I know that the closest one to me is over an hour away...
Yeah its a three hour drive to the track for me ( i'm going this summer
) but there is also a cheap drag setup where people drag on the airport runnway. That is awesome. It is just a runway which is not in use and there are planes always goinf up and down

A good substitute for track time is a G-tech. All you need is an open deserted road to do some testing.
Although "take it to the track" is good advice, track times can vary a lot just with different weather conditions. My car can change .3-.5 within 2 weeks just because of how much the weather has changed. Another thing to consider is location. 2 identical cars. One in Denver, the other in Florida. The Florida car will run a quicker time because of the lower elevation.
How can a "guess my time" be even close to accurate with such variables like that?
You'll also notice that many of the "guess my time" posts have a lot of simple bolt-on stuff and many of them have nothing to do with increasing hp. These cars should be slightly quicker than stock. Putting on all that bolt-on stuff won't give you 50-100 hp increases unless at least one of them is a power adder.

one again i need to point out that all of you guys need to move into teh central jersey area. i have 5 tracks with in a 2 hour drive. 3 of them are with in 1 hour. 2 host nhra national events(e-town and maple grove) and all but one hold nhra certification (last i heard cecil county was still ihra only). all teh tracks are 15 er 20 for their weekly programs and 20 or 25 for special events. the onlynight of the week that i can't race on any of those tracks is monday night and all of them have full fri, sat, and sun programs.

Yeah, it would kinda suck not living near a track! I think I'd have to move. Luckily, I'm near 3 with the furthest one being only 1.25hr away.
Stephen....I totally agree. It's really hard to tell people what your car runs, when their are so many variables. Track conditions, weather, etc. Other than if you don't live near a track there is no reason not to bring it and see for yourself.
Come on guys....lets see some times roll in! I don't care if it's a 17 second pass.....post it!!

OK i have never asked what can my car do in the quarter. That is because it is in about a million or so pieces in the garage but i am finally putting more pieces on than taking them off. However the car is going to get a couple of shakedown runs in the subdivision then it is getting loaded onto a trailer and taken to Route 66 in Joliet. As soon as i get a time i will put it in my sig.

Mine's in the sig.
I've since put on a Crane Hi-6 (I like), did a tuneup, pulled some weight out of the car, and am going to run full slicks this friday. Gotta a Camaro-Mustang shootout at our track. Hoping finally for some 12s and 107+ traps. Also hoping that my tranny and rear hold up.
Wish me luck.

I totally agree about going to the track, because if you hide behind the excuse of being too far away from a track, then why does it matter what you would run at the track since "because there's not one near" you are not gonna be going to a track??
And I do sympathize with a lot of you guys, the nearest 1/4 tracks are all over 1 1/2 hour away from me also, but I go often. But anyway, my ET for my 82 Z28 is in the my sig, and the best ET on my 89 RS is a 14.91 @ 92.6MPH I took my 82 Z28 to Mongomery this last Fri Night, and I pulled a best of only an 11.62, but my MPH was up to 115.84 which is the fastest the car has ever gone. My 60' was only 1.684, and my 1/8 mile time was a 7.41, so I was overall pleased with how the car ran, I just couldn't get a good, clean pass. The track was not prepped well at all, and everyone was complaining about they're 60' times. My 60' times are usually in 1.59-1.61 range, so I know on a night after a big event (meaning the track will prepped much better) I can get the car into the 11.50's maybe even high 11.40's in good air.

Track opens april 1st, and I have a g-tech just havent found the time to run, but I'll post track and g-tech times for the future, I know what it should run.
i was thinking about how so many guys say they live too far from the track. i was thinking back to my bad old days makin runs in philly and newark and thinking that we would drive aroudn for at least 1 and 1/2 hours just looking for a worthwhile race, could have driven to teh track and had a few runs in the by time we actually got one street run in.

I guess I'am pritty lucky being my track is only 10 minutes away
The best part is we might only get like 20 cars on the test and tune night so I don't have to wait in line behine 100 cars like some of you guys do.
Time in the sig!

I don't mind the hour drive to my local track. I could go to a track that's closer/cheaper, but then I have to deal with the potholes about 1/2 the way down.

Right on
REally guys, I took my car to a 1/8 mile track last night and got some real times. It really only cost $5 (its $10 to get in if you don't race anyway). Im 52 and its the first time in my life Ive drag raced (at a real track). It was great, the first time was a little nervous, and the second time I did my burnout while a dragster was in the other lane at the start line (1 didn't even see him, I was just looking straight down that black track). It was no big deal tho, the starter just motioned for me to stop in the staging area and the big guy took off.
In short, just do it guys.

If you've already got the car up on a trailer you're better off hitting Byron, US41, or Union Grove. At rt66 you'll end up sitting for at least 3 hours between runs...street cars (ricers mostly) have overrun the place the past few years. And the rt66 techs are somewhat picky if you have an older car.
