We finally. got back out on course! August Regional. The stars aligned, and in spite of 30% chance of rain, we made it out.... and back. Had a decent day, in spite of not driving the car for 3 months and the tires being well past their sell by date. We PAXed 111th and 133rd out of 184 participants. Nothing stellar, but not DFL, either. The car even went on the trailer under its own power!!
Happy to report the new Borla muffler didn't kill any HP. In fact, we may have a bit more power, but it's kind of hard to tell when the tires are done, and you don't get much time at WOT. Barbara had cone trouble, kicking at least one on each run. I did cone away one run but it wasn't my FTD, so no biggie. The Cool Suit First Responder's Pad in the driver's seat performed well. It did spring a leak at a connection on my first run, but I chalk that up to not having used the thing in quite a while. Reconnected the hose, and things worked fine for the rest of our heat.
When we weren't driving, we wore one of those ice pack vests, which did pretty well keeping us cool, calm and collected. I highly recommend! A fan sat in the passenger seat between runs pretty much just blew hot air on us, but even it was welcome at times. It was only about 92-deg F, but with 60% humidity and ZERO wind, it got HOT.
We also got another chance to try out our 'CP-class caravan'. It's a fishing beach wagon configured to haul our cr@p to and from grid. We got a Yeti cooler with credit card points, and kept the ice vests, cold packs and water in it. It worked great. We hitch it to the car with the class 1 receiver we got for the bike rack.
The new tow pig did great! It feels quicker than the old 2500HD, in spite of similar HP, and the HD having much more torque than the gasser. Being a 10-speed trans, the new truck just down shifts when more power is required, whereas we'd have to wait for the Duramax to spool up and start accelerating when we stuck our foot in it. It's probably mostly that I'm not used to it, but the new truck also seemed to want to cruise a bit faster, too. All-in-all, it was a great trip but I'm SO happy to be off the concrete sitting in the AC as I type!!
I'm thinking new tires may happen after Nationals, not that we're going, just want to get past the 'Nationals rush'. Fresh Hoosier rubber is so much fun to play on!!
Howdy, just stumbled on your recap. I just checked out the July event and am thinking about joining this Fall. I'm happy to see another third gen on the track. I might not be the quickest but it sure looks fun.

C'mon' out! We're currently the only 3rd Gen out there consistently, but there are a couple of 4th Gens that run. At least one person stops by at nearly every event telling us they're happy we're still campaigning a 3rd Gen. One guy, Rob, runs his 4th Gen in CAM, and is pretty dang quick in it. We're definitely NOT the quickest out there, but have fun doing it. My co-driver and I usually just 'compete' between ourselves to see who can be the quickest. Wwe're pretty evenly matched on class wins.
The next event is the rescheduled January event, which I believe was cancelled due to weather. It'll be on the 21 of September. While we usually hold events the first weekend of each month, September is the odd one out, since Nationals are that weekend. The October event will on 10/5 and then in November, it's a two-day event because the Saturday event is September's make-up date.
Lemme know if you need any help with classing. We do have a 'Novice' class where the first-time drivers are in one group and are timed based on their PAX (indexed) times. You don't have to enter the Novice class, but they do get some considerations, like opportunities to have an instructor ride with them.
I'll be there in October. I wanted to get in the rookie class but that thing filled up 15 minutes after midnight as I was working my way through the process. Registered in novice CAMC, there are so many classes to choose from. Ordered a print copy of the rule book today too to keep digging. I might try to make it out this month to see how things shake out again.

Cool. YOu'll be running with Rob. He has a 4th Gen, and is pretty danged quick. C'mon out and have fun. The really great thing about a 3rd Gen is how nicely they rotate.

So you have a Red 88 Z? If so, nice drive yesterday!! We saw the car, but never saw you. The car looks sweet, and actually closely-matches a friend's Z who recently passed. Our tires are completely done, aged out for sure (I think they're three seasons old) and probably too many runs. Even though I was second driver in our car, I could spin the rears with pretty much any amount of throttle. My last run finished in a total tank-slapper through the lights. I did save it, though.
Hopefully, we still have a venue to run at next year.
