82-92 F-body 1/4 mile times list

Please follow these simple rules. Your quarter mile time will be posted in the list at the top of this thread and readers will be linked to your post for more details about your car. Please post details similar to the following format:

Vehicle

* Year and type of car
* Engine
* Transmission
* Tire used during the pass (size, brand, model)
* Weight without driver (if known)
* Performance modifications (if any)

Which category?

* V6
* SBC stock and bolt on
* SBC internal engine mods
* SBC power adders
* BBC
* LS naturally aspirated
* LS power adders
* Gen V LT

Time Slip

Post a picture of the time slip, or a video showing the displayed time. If you don’t have either then don’t post. Just post your actual ET, not the corrected ET. If somebody else drove the car at the time then state their username and credit their accomplishment.

-- Name of track and location --

60'.............
330'...........
660'...........
660’ mph....
1000'.........
1320'.........
1320’ mph…

*** NOTE ***

If you are updating a time then let me know so I can remove your old time and replace with new. You can have more than one post if you have an entirely different engine combo or a different car.

Please come in and join the thread if there is something you are looking for in the list. New ideas are welcome. This is your list and I am doing your updates.

This is just a list of reference points and not a competition. NO INSULTS OR DEGRADING COMMENTS toward others will be tolerated. If you do then I will remove your name from the list. You may insult yourself all you want, if you feel so inclined.

I'm just going to make an executive decision and put you in both the V6 and Power Adder group.

Re: 82-92 F-body 1/4 mile times list

Vehicle

* 1989 Pontiac Firebird
* 427 LS stroker (6.0L iron block, 4.125" stroke, L92 ported heads, cam, FAST 102R intake)
* T56 manual transmission, 3.73 rear gears
* 275/40-17 drag radial
* 3500 pounds (no driver)
* Tightly sprung autocross style suspension

Category: Engine swap (LSx)

Time Slip

Couldn't find my time slip. The fuzzy readout in the video is 11.89 @ 123.xx mph. Really lazy 60' time around 2.0 seconds.

Re: 82-92 F-body 1/4 mile times list

I think the "tube chassis" class should be changed to "unlimited" to allow as many modifications as possible. A car with a BBC, power adder and back halved would fit into multiple categories. I doubt you'll find a lot of tube chassis cars on TGO even though there are a couple.

Re: 82-92 F-body 1/4 mile times list

Can't imagine there are all that many "stock" baseline times, so here you go. I'm sure there are better recorded times for similar cars, but FWIW.

Vehicle

* Year and type of car -1991 Firebird Formula
* Engine - 5.7L TPI
* Transmission - 4L60
* Tire used during the pass (size, brand, model) - BFG Comp T/A VR4 (245/50VR16)
* Weight without driver (if known) - 3,440lbs
* Performance modifications (if any)* - Poor mans cold air (air cleaner can delete), 110k miles, stock suspension, stock exhaust, etc

Which category?

* Showroom Stock (any tire allowed) - I'd call it bone stock. Not so much as a timing bump.

Time Slip

-- Beech Bend Raceway, Bowling Green KY --

60'............. 2.166
330'........... 5.959
660'........... 9.173
660’ mph.... 76.14
1000'......... 11.977
1320'......... 14.327
1320’ mph… 97.40

Does it have to be a currently running car/combo or any setup that was once in the car?

83 "Z" Camaro
383 built by yours truly
TSI Glide
Moser 9
2945 race weight minus driver. Factory glass, only fiberglass piece being the hood.
28x10.50 slick non "w"

time is with a small jet tuneup roughly 150hp hit. With soft timing and progressed. This season hopefully we will turn it up and get after it and make something bigger happen..... still sorting out the combo.

You know, I may be biased but those cars look great on the road course. The 92 Heritage Camaro and Firehawk in particular (I didn't know the Firehawk was that quick).
Thanks for posting. It's been a long time since I've watched those videos.

I've had better results in various portions of the 1/4 mile. Quicker 60' (1.71), 1/8 mile ET (8.04). This represents the best overall. More or less.

Re: 82-92 F-body 1/4 mile times list

Ok I don't have a 1/4mi nearby so here's my 1/8mi stats...

89 IROC Camaro
414 dart/AFR 210 heads 10.2CR
HSR EFI 58MMTB 36# Bosch
EBL Flash ecm
Comp 229/237 HR on 114 ~600 lift
Hooker shortys- 3 1/2 single exh.
TKO 600 with McLeod twin disc
Moser 9" 3.50

Hoosier Quick Time 26 8.5 16

Daily driver- non stock category (AC PW Cruise Stereo etc)
16MPG combined 20MPG Hwy 0MPG Track
Stock suspension- poly bushings
Air bags on rear springs LCARB
Custom made adjustable torque arm

3700# fat happy pig

60' 1.86
330 5.29
1/8 8.06
MPH 91

It usually runs 8.0X at around 90MPH. A bit trick to launch and slow off the 60' but coming on the top end. Looking forward to a 1/4 mile run later this year. I do have a 200HP nitrous kit but don't have a recent time slip with current combo. Made ~420RWHP NA and 515 N2O.

And I thought I had this all figured out until you threw that curve ball at me.

Alright, let me figure out how to integrate 1/8 mile and then I'll get the list updated.

Orr whatever happened to your IROC? That was one bad *** car. And for a mostly streetable ride, you coulda been on street outlaws with a little weight loss and tire.

Vehicle

* '87 Trans Am
* 305
* T5
* 26x10.5" slick (Pretty sure it was an MT, but it was something I got used and totally unnecessary to run the time with the car)
* 3580lbs
* SLP cold air intake, Headman shorty headers, Dynomax Ultraflow muffler, homemade LCA, PHR, TA. Other mods that were probably a net loss: Ford 9" (probably close to 100# heavier than stock), Megasquirt (I was having ignition problems on that pass, you could hear it misfiring during the burnout and wouldn't rev past 3400rpm during the burnout, could have been more easily tuned with the stock ECM but the MAF died and it was harder to get another than to just swap the MS).

the engine was disassembled the next spring for a top end swap and all the stock 305 PNs were confirmed with pictures posted for the block, heads, cam, intake assembly/injectors....

Which category?

* External engine modifications (bolt-ons only)

Re: 82-92 F-body 1/4 mile times list

I'm trying to find a timeslip for my '87 Formula 350, I got that to run 13.48 with literally nothing but an slp cold air and cat back, it was even on original stock gaterback tires (the original owner stored them in the attic)... I have the full timeslip info in my spreadsheet but I don't know that I can find the physical timeslip.

Re: 82-92 F-body 1/4 mile times list

I'm sure it's still around somewhere but I can't locate my old timeslip. I keep all my best results on my web page but not the full timeslip. That data may still be in my logbook somewhere.

Guess I'm in the Unlimited class because of all the modifications I've done. It's not just a simple big block swap and the car is a long way from being street legal.

87 Camaro, back halved, gutted, full race car.
9.029 @ 150.45 MPH
1.273 60' time
588 BBC, alcohol injected (dual flying toilets), NA
Powerglide, 6000 stall converter
4.86 gears in a narrowed 9" putting power to 32 x 16 slicks.
Race weight 3020 pounds (including driver)

Full car information for those who have never been to my web page is at www.hardtail.com There are also a lot of videos on youtube by searching for alkyiroc. The last video I posted was a sky high wheelie when I got all four tires off the ground. Too bad it was only in car video.

Friggin awesome wheels-up pic. Especially on a "stock" rear suspension. I would really enjoy hearing more about your suspension setup, shocks, stall etc.

Re: 82-92 F-body 1/4 mile times list

Update. Went to the strip Friday and ran some of the best times to date. It was cool out so that may have helped. Also, I got in some nitrous runs and ran the best ever run.

N/A
1.83 60'
5.21 330'
7.96 1/8 mi
89 mph

Interesting the MPH for na was a couple of miles slower but the time was better.

N2O
1.77 60'
4.98 330'
7.53 1/8mi
97 mph (almost 98)

Planning to add a progressive controller for the nitrous. With better launch technique and bringing in the nitrous sooner, I think there is a 100MPH potential.

This is getting close to 11 sec performance in the 1/4 mile. Not bad for a 100% daily driver with all the creature comforts!

Showroom Stock. 1989 Firebird Formula. L03. 700R4/ shift kit. 2.73 posi.Cat-Delete 3in exhaust. 245-50-16 off brand street tires.

Other than the shift kit pretty much bone stock from what I remember. I was just curious and wanted a baseline before I went to changing things. The only slower 3rd gen I ever owned was an 82 Z28 CFI I think it ran 16.4 and was quickly dumped for a strong 350-350 Turbo Tranny setup.

VAGOGTA says "car was launching really nice".
"Yeah" I'd say. Nice shot of the suspension. Love the look of the ground clearance headers!
May be too far off topic here but I'd like to know how fast/how much power you can put down with a "stock" body before you NEED to put in a roll cage. Not as required by rules, just how much can the stock body take?
I have already had the pan wrinkle a bit in front of the lower control arms. That was after sub frame connectors and all. I ended up adding some bracing to the floor pan in that area. With a stick shift it seems to be beating the body up. Some of the seam filler is starting to fall out lol.

At the risk of clogging up the thread, whose subframe connectors do you have? Perhaps you could start your own thread on this subject. I'm sure you'd get a lot of input.
