Re: need help

I don't know jack about how to put a motor together, but I've installed several motors in Thirgens, rear ends, etc etc. I'd be happy to come down and help you out, but I don't think that is the kinda help you are looking for.

Doug the engine is mostly put together, All we have to do is make sure everything is tighten down & prime the oil pump & that kind of stuff.

Then prime up the tranny & install the stall conv. match everything up & go.

Re: need help

Tammy - If you want help with all that, no problem :-) I would be happy to help you, after Mid August I am pretty free, I may have to go to New York sometime around August 11-16 (in there), and outside of that I don't think I have any solid plans.

Do you need engine hoist, tranny jack, or anything in the tool department?

Re: need help

I've put a few engines together, consequently, I've hardly had any time to be on the boards...let alone anything else! One thing you definatley want to do when you assemble an engine is to make sure you get the proper strech on the rod bolts and main bolts. You can do this by either purchasing a bolt strech checker. This tool goes into the little dimple on the end of the rod bolts. You can do this the old fashon way too. you simply torque the bolts to spec's, let them sit for an hour, untorque them. Do this 3 times and the final time, give an extra 5ft lbs and your done. I have heard this is critical in the life of the engine as it assures the proper bolt strech and if you don'tdo this...well, just think of all the stress and heat an engine goes through and how metals contract/expand.

I wish I had the time to come down, but work has been busy! AND DONT get hurt...chances are it may be me who's comming to fix you down there in Yelm

Re: need help

If I'm not working I'll come down and lend a hand. What's "mostly put together mean?" Short block ready for heads? Rotating assembly reading to go in? I haven't messed with the internals farther than head/cam swap but I'd be happy to help where I can. As with most everyone else I've done engine/trans/rearend/body swaps.
