Swap

I know there is a forum section about this but i just want to know certain shops in the seattle area that do this kind of thing. Also if anyone can give me a ballpark for a full engine swap cost including labor that would be awesome. have about 2k saved up, will that be enough or will i need a ton more or just a little more or am i good?

I called a place down here & asked & it will be about 3to 5K to do mine, But mines an empty engine compartment with a engine that is not totally finished.

Re: Swap

A lot depends on what you are starting with. Is the engine complete and "running" in the car? Are you doing a direct swap (like 305 to 305, or 350 to 350)? How complete is the engine that is going in?

well its going 305-350 would be ideal, i dont have an engine lined up yet, i'm just ballparking figures to see if it would be feasible with the money i have saved up. i have 2k give or take right now, but more money comes easily. so yea just trying to draw up a plan of attack.

edit: Check this one out
hows that for an engine?

Re: Swap

IMHO, if you are paying someone to do the swap, that engine is a really bad choice. Do you have a TPI, TBI, or carb?

What are your goals? Daily driver/weekend warrior? 1/4 mile? Also, T-5 or 700R4?

Re: Swap

it's carbed, and it's gonna be a daily driver, it's a T-5. If i had the shop find an engine for me, how much more is that? I'm really quite new at this. the car isnt running and instead of getting a new 305 i figured i'd upgrade. thanks for the help, i know it's a pain in the *** dealing with noobs like me.

Re: Swap

you can call around to the local dealerships & ask them how much a 290 HP 350 will cost ya. mine cost me about 1800 a couple years ago & they are already put together

Re: Swap

Try here, also: http://www.sdparts.com/

For swapping in a LT1 I have no idea on how much more it would cost, but it would be A LOT. To get all the wiring right would probably be close to $1,000 by itself. Plus, you get almost no gains.

Like Tammy said, a 350 Short Block from GM would be a GREAT start for you.

Oh, and another thing... the T-5 is not a strong transmission. You need to be nice to it or you will be replacing the transmission soon after you get the 350.
