Relocating to Seattle, have some questions
Hey guys,
I'm moving to the Seattle area in September and I have a few questions.
I have classic plates in Pennsylvania that exempts me from emissions inspections, anything like that in WA? I didn't see anything.
If not, will my car pass inspection?
1987 IROC-Z
700-R4
350 TPI bored to 357
10:1 compression
Trick Flow 190's
1.5 roller rockers
ZZ4 Cam
24lb injectors
Lingenfelter TPI manifold
AS&M Runners
Ported plenum
SLP 1 3/4" non air headers
catco cat
edelbrock exhaust
no EGR
chip burned for above minus the heads and intake manifold, planning to get this re-tuned
Bumming about getting front license plates.
Anything else I should know?
Thanks,
John

Re: Relocating to Seattle, have some questions
Near Seattle... some areas near Seattle don't have emissions inspection at all. Don't bother putting a front plate on. It's been 8 years since I've had a front plate on my car. Been hassled a few times, one ticket from a complete a*hole Stater, outside of that it's been worth the 30 minutes of time and 101 bucks to not run a with a front plate.
Can't help with emissions since I live in a non-emissions.

Then you are even closer to being out of an emissions area. I live about 20 miles North of Everett and no emissions. Depends on the zip code once you get into Snohomish County.

In washington state your car has to be a mim of 30yrs old to have Collector plates on it which means it has to be as old as I am lol.
as for emission testing heres the zip codes of where they test.

I also live out side of the testing areas for now. dont know how much longer though.

30 yrs old for collector plates. It's cool because you can buy a period-correct plate and register that. Once registered, you never have to renew and you don't need a front plate.
Emissions where required are to 25 years old and done every other year.

Re: Relocating to Seattle, have some questions
one option for avaiding emissions testing is to register your car where you park it instead of where you live. example, i live up near portland oregon. however my car is registered in Klamath falls Oregon at my brothers house. you could do the same thing in WA. so if you meet somone, say in a carclub local to the area, adn they let you register their house as where you park the car then you can avaid the testing. of course, if your car does not reside at that address primarily then you are technically in violation of the law. and we could never advocate breaking the law on a public forum.
BTW, welcome in advance to the beautiful PNW.

Re: Relocating to Seattle, have some questions
I live out on the Island so no emissions for us. The further North you get the more bord the Troopers get. Got a warning by a buddy thats an I.C.S about front plate.Troopers gave him a ticket for not having one on his 08 ZO6. He had to put one on so I put mine on.Just keeps them away. Welcome to the Evergreen state!
Re: Relocating to Seattle, have some questions
LOL, no kidding about the farther North thing. I got a no front plate ticket in my 00 TA heading up to Mission raceway out in the middle of BFE! I've been pulled over... 8 or 9 times for no front plate. One ticket, costed me 101 bucks. That not bad for ~8 years with no front plate... I'll pay that tax.
