Well, it's 11:30 and the big block is in the car. It wasn't fun but I guess it wasn't terribly difficult either. The headers are freaking tight and I'm going to have to move the brake lines, but that's a small price to pay for what I'll have when it's done. The car is sitting level now too! It's been so long since it sat level that I actually have to get used to it again
. In reality I'm kind of wishing I didn't have a blower cam in it. I look at the car right now and I think to myself how wicked it would be to run naturally aspirated and put my stock hood back on. What a sleeper!!!!
Blue502, what did you do for exhaust? I can't believe that the Hooker Supercomps are the only choice out there. I suppose you could say they fit but that's not my idea of 'fit'. I still have to install the passenger side header and all I can say is it's going to make everything that I've done so far look like a walk in the park.

Oh man, that would be a kick in the pants but when I say it's close to being complete what I mean is I almost have all the parts. Time is still a big factor. I have to send the blower back to Holley and I won't get it back for about 4 weeks. I have to fab up an exhaust system and modify my fuel tank. I need to run new fuel lines front to back but I can't do that until I know exactly where the subframe connectors will sit. Then I need to get a dyno session to tune the fuel injection system. And the list goes on and on. I'm plugging away at it but I've still got a long road ahead of me.
Sweet. Can't wait to see/hear that bad boy when your done.
On a side note, I saw your car on the net a long time ago - thought it was pretty cool. And now I'll actually get to see it some day.

Oh, comeon, I am sure you can push it and get it done by the 30th!
I was just giving you a bad time about being there
Its gonna be sweet when you do get it done, though... just needs a set of ground effects!

Qwktrp, When I did the BBC into my 87 RS I used the super comps, They sucked. I hated having to crawl under the car and use the ford tool on the floorboards. Your right about the "fit", they don't. This time with the 86 Z I'm going to use the sandersons. They aren't equal lenght but I shouldn't notice a difference in my application. They're also about $100 less. After those I think I'm going to try a set of collector inserts in the exhaust pipe right after the headers instead of mufflers. That way I can run the duals and not have to get out the ford tool again to make an impression for the mufflers. The last time I had the tips exit both sides right in front of the rear tires, same plan this time, that way I don't hve to go over the axle and I won't have to worry about them when I get rich and put ladder bars in.

Sandersons? Which ones? I called Sandersons and they said they don't make one for BB Chevy in 3rd gen F-Bodys. I've also worked it from other angles through distributors because I keep getting hints on this board that the headers really do exist. Which part number is it? I'd order them right now if I just knew which ones they were. Also, I'm using a stick shift and the Lakewood bell housing is HUGE. It really takes up a lot of room on the passenger side. Also, the clutch linkage bracket is rotated from the stock position. I know the Hookers clear the tranny because I installed them when everything was out of the car. You think the Sandersons will clear both sides?
AmorgetRS, ground effects, huh? You may be more right then wrong. The collectors for the Hooker headers are in plain view at the front of the driver door. A set of ground effects would hide it. You never know what I'll do in the end!

on the plus side if you don't put ground effects on, I get free collectors

These were formerly advertised to fit into the thirdgen chassis the last time I looked. I see now that they changed the page. Either way, this is what everyone is talking about.

Congrats on the install Qwktrip! Want to come over and help me shove mine in?
I guess you weren't aware, but I haven't installed my 502 yet. Keep coming up short of the 'ol cashola. Sooner or later I'll get it done.
For headers I too have been thinking about trying the Sandersons and dumping out in front of the rear wheels. If that doesn't cut it for me, then I'll just pony up for a set of custom built ones. I've also been considering NASCAR style oval tubing instead of round in order to run true dual to the rear, but haven't taken any measurements yet to see if it'll work.

Me and a friend were looking at those BB2 headers and we thought they looked fairly close to being able to fit. I called Sanderson and they simply said, no they won't work. I wonder if they have changed them. Let me know how they work!
I did get the headers in today. They seem to fit without any 'mods' to the sheetmetal but I still don't have the tranny in and if the rear of the motor raises much I'm in deep doo doo.
Blue502... yeah, I can help you put it in. I have 3 day weekends every two weeks. Just make a post when you're ready. All I require is pizza, pop, and a place to sleep.

Well, I ordered the Hookers with ceramic coating. I'm not going to say how much they cost but let's just say I about choked on my credit card. Buit I've had painted headers and I hate them. Nothing like a good ceramic coating.<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by 87RS402:

I'll probably forget you have them so in the future if I start talking about ground effects remind me you've got those.<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by AmorgetRS:
