I Need new seat belts.....harness?

The belts in my car , after consideration need replacing , if I was in an acciendent now I swear that they would snap....the drivers side has got a little tare in it and the passenger side wont retract....I'm not going to a wreaker and buying ****ty belts that may not be good , so I went to GM.......You dont want to know how much they wanted ..... What do you guys think of the best setup for racing harnesses without a cage and with the stock seats ????? I was looking at this page : http://www.rciracing.com/seven.htm
I was specially looking at The Street belts .....I'm just worried about where I'm going to bolt the sholder parts to the car.....somewhere on the floor behind the seat or something...... do you think that it would be safe like that ???

The harness should be mounted close to the height of your shoulders. It is an especially bad idea to mount the shoulder harness to the floor pan because it allows you to have full rotation about your waist making the shoulder harness ineffective.

It's not pleasant to use a harness for normal use. They are heavy and tight and pull down hard on your shoulders. It becomes very uncomfortable quickly.

I know for the Corvettes they make a harness that attaches to the normal seat belt mounts and retains the seat belt attachments. I've never seen any such thing for Camaros but it could likely be adapted. Take a look at Mid America or Ecklers.

Hey Andy... racing harnesses are great for the track and hard cornering but are a PITA for daily use, maneuverability is gone... changing the radio station or CD would become more difficult... just for your info, I believe it is a ticketable offence if you get pulled over. But when it comes to life or a ticket.. it doesn't require too much thinking I guess. If ya do go with a harness... think about adding a harness bar... as long you don't use your back seats on a daily basis you'll be fine

I used to have a racing harness in my Camaro for years, and it was a pita to use everyday. I attached my harness to the rear seat belt mounting bolts and used a specially fabricated bracket attached to the headrest support in order to give myself the shoulder level bracing. While this wouldn't have passed tech for a racing track, it was certainly a lot better than the stock belts. One drawback of this setup was that I couldn't put my rear seat down without unhooking my harness and tucking it under the rear seat. If I were to do a harness setup again, I would install a chome plated 4 point roll bar in the rear seat area (might have to be custom made) and attach the harness to that. But even when I get my bb installed I plan to stick with the factory belts for the forseeable future.

If you just bolted your shoulder harness to the floor it would make it useless and also dangerious cause by bolting them to the floor it would not hold you back in a head on collision. What would happen is your upper body would be thrown forward, thus tightening the harness to your shoulders, forcing your shoulders down and crushing your spine if the impact was severe enough.
Shoulder harness should ALWAYS be bolted in above the drivers shoulders or level to them. Just my $.02
